If a whole bunch of people vote republican, the democrats will repeal it themselves.

Glick is a guy. OK maybe she wants to look like a guy. Or, she identifies as a male. No matter which is the case, the suggestion that a fine be levied for not voting is absurd. It is a tax, yes, on people who don’t give a damn.
With Reps. like Glick, who can blame them?

That would last about 5 minutes in the Federal courts.

I think that depends on how big a cut the Judges get of the 'fines'.

Always more laws.”

More control and a source of revenue. Wonder how they will determine who has voted and who hasn’t and which list(s) they will compare the names to? Maybe, particularly during the mid-terms when fewer people vote, they will find a lot of names that really shouldn’t be on the list of eligible voters after all. Seems like they didn’t think this through very well. Has the possibility to disclose fraudulent voters in prior elections.

Wait a minute. People can’t afford to get an identification form, like a license, to prove they are eligible to vote, how the hell can they afford a fine.

Excellent point!

If they would all vote voluntarily they could indirectly get paid to vote.... works like that already.

Unconstitutional.

Violation of the First Amendment.

BIG Yawn, I am an Australian and yes we have compulsory voting and usually about 85% of the registered voters, compulsory to register also, they vote.

And guess what the results are probably still the same as if they weren’t compulsory, no difference one way or the other.

To most people, we are used to it and is no big deal.

If you want a Government then you are obliged to elect the candidate of your choice.

In my view if you dont vote then you have no right to complain about the Government you get.

Generally people get the Politicians they “Deserve”.

eg Venezuela / Maduro

she can go *** her mother before I pay a fine for not voting. I live in New York City and if somehow this passed I definitely wouldn’t pay. And I wouldnt vote just so I could bring it to court. This is why we need these people serving two or three weeks a year. We don’t need losers making bills 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

You have to understand the New York State legislature. Three men have total power to pass or not pass legislation. The representatives are simply pawns who do what the leaders tell them to do. They can propose any sort of legislation they like, but they know it will never come to the floor. Only the legislation that the ‘three men in a room’ have approved comes to the floor.

If she shaves, do you suppose she composts her hair?

If not, I propose a $10 fine.

The Daily Oklahoman false attribution again? Elmer T. Peterson attributed it to Alexander Fraser Tytler; it has also been spuriously attributed to de Tocqueville. Also see this thread.

What result would you expect from arguing in front of the Roberts SC and an alto instrument of the violin family?

are you shocked? We were told that f...ts just want equal rights and that’s it. No they want the fascist dictatorship with a f***** at the til. And all along we were told that they just want equal rights and that’s it. No they want the fascist dictatorship with a f***** at the top. God forgive me for using that word but they just try to make you say it with their wickedness.

So the “three men” are that state’s Politburo and the State Assembly and Senate act as the rubber-stamp Supreme Soviet.
