Behind the scenes public relations gurus, talking heads, and sports operatives, and a mindless, biased media convinced the sports junkies and causal fans of the game, that Duke was a much better team than they really are, despite the obvious flaws, thereby elevating Duke to unreasonable expectations, where failure was inevitable. In short, expectations were driven by polls, which drove expectations and the belief that Duke can’t lose. Sound familiar?
