Ivanka Trump moves into West Wing office, acknowledges ‘no modern precedent’ for her role

Although Ivanka Trump lacks a formal White House job, the president’s older daughter is moving into her own West Wing office, an administration representative said — a move that increases her profile as an influential, although unofficial, adviser to her father.

Ivanka Trump will not be on the government payroll or officially bound by its ethics rules, but she said in a statement to Politico that she will “voluntarily” follow those restrictions. She also acknowledged the unusual nature of her emerging role.

“I will continue to offer my father my candid advice and counsel, as I have for my entire life,” Ivanka Trump in the statement. “While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president, I will voluntarily follow all of the ethics rules placed on government employees.”

I don’t love the idea but she is one of the few people he can trust right now. She may not be so liberal any longer after how the left has treated her too.

Yes.

Republicans who are owned by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will not support a stupid mandate that will only chase MORE jobs out of the U.S.

My question would be if she is so good at reading people how can she deal with Gorelick? Time for Ivanka to back off and just be Trump’s daughter.

I don’t think there is anyone remotely as influential on the president as Ivanka. The fact that she is pretty much a straightforward northeast liberal has to be somewhat concerning.

Just imagine for a second that Melania was like Hillary Clinton.

There would be a battle between first children and Hillary.

But Melania is no Hillary. She doesn’t appear to care about power in that way.

That is not to say that she wouldn’t fiercely protect and defend Barron if it was between Barron and Ivanka.

This comes into play with the family business.

Who takes the reins..does Barron get shut out, etc...

Family dynamics between 3 different family situations involving money can be very very tricky.

WAPO conveniently forgets Hillary Clinton’s healthcare taskforce.

FDR had a daughter that had considerable influence in his last couple years in office. Eleanor had a way of getting on his last nerve so they were barely on speaking terms at that time.

Truman's daughter also had considerable influence.

And don't get me started on Jimmy Carter bringing up Amy in his debate with Reagan...so much for WAPO research.

To imagine a president totally isolated from the influence of his wife & family is tO engage in fantasy. I only raised Hillary for 2 reasons: it’s fairly recent, and it was an instance of actual policy-making power bestowed upon a family member. At the time it was unprecedented.

Well, the family business is currently under the control of Don Jr and Eric. My guess is that whenever Ivanka wants to return to the business she can, having already proved she is a valuable member. I would guess that if Tiffany or Barron in the future want to join, it would depend on their qualifications.

Melania’s personal net worth is 11 million, nowhere close to President Trump’s but not small change. She seems to be an astute business woman in her own right. She has never shown any interest in being part of the family business.

At this point, who knows what Barron might want to do. He may want to follow in his father and siblings footsteps, he may want to go in an entirely different direction.

It’s too late, alas, now that she is ensconced in the WH Ivanka’s involvement will certainly be felt in many ways. It would have been far far better if she had confined her interests to non-governmental matters.

As for Gorelick, that firm has evidently been advising Jared Kushner for a while and helped to set up his situation in the Trump admin., too. I shudder to think of Gorelick being privy to any inner workings at all of Team Trump. If Gorelick’s role is limited to one-time advice about Ivanka taking an office in the West Wing, maybe it won’t be a disaster, but if Gorelick acquires any ongoing legal advising role for Ivanka and Jared that is VERY dangerous, indeed. Gorelick would not hesitate to weaponize anything she learns on behalf of the Democraps — I’m sure she is extremely well integrated into the gossip networks of the DC ‘Rats so that she can make sure any info filters around without her fingerprints.

“While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president...”

No, but Mama Robinson got to live rent-free in the White House during the Obama tenure without being either a dependent or holding any official position, so there is that precedent.

Gorelick’s scandalous behavior wrt “The Wall” which was covered up by the 9/11 Commission (of which she was a member!!!) is still lied about today, e.g., see Wikileaks linked below. They try to make it out that she merely continued practices dating back to the Reagan admin. What they ignore or cover up is that after the first WTC bombing in 1993 it became crystal clear(to intelligent people) that criminal investigations and counter-terrorism investigations should not be entirely isolated from each other — if you gain valuable info in a criminal investigation it is NEEDED in counter-terrorism investigations. Gorelick blocked essential information sharing and then she and her minions lied about it after 9/11.

Had Gorelick’s “Wall” not existed it is very very likely that threads leading to the 9/11 conspirators could have been pursued adequately.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Gorelick

SHe was also a key Clintonista flunky in so many ways, and a corrupt swamp creature when she gained millions from the Fannie Mae disaster.

I remember her from waaaaay back. She is, in a word, awful.

I don’t trust this, nor the judgment of those making this choice.
