People seem to be woefully uninformed and also seem to think that commercial privacy is their new entitlement. But privacy is not an entitlement, it is guaranteed by adopting security. It cannot be guaranteed by regulatory government.

They, and many retail firms, have been selling your private information for profit for quite some time.

I agree. More government regulation is not the answer

Astonishingly even on a conservative forum many are fooled by this spin and lies of the communists. Government is the problem not the answer .

Asking for government to protect your “privacy” with regulations is like asking doctors to cure a cold by injecting yourself with cancer cells or HIV cells

Your Right to Privacy.

Can Hospitals sell your medical records to whoever they want?

Answer: No it’s your privacy.

This is VERY BASIC, and not rocket science. Haha!

I realize commenting without reading really is a common trait, but there is a difference; Obama & the FCC wanted ISPs to get your explicit permission (outside of the user agreement you agreed to when you first signed up with your ISP which, among many things, covered selling data...)to protect Google and Facebook’s market share as many ISPs (hey, AT&T) realized how they could bundle your viewing habits, your browsing habits, e-mail, financial information, etc. That was a more complete picture, and Google and Facebook wanted that quashed.

But hey, since it actually only removes a future regulation which no one is yet subject to and keeps things exactly as they are today, they're traitors, in your opinion.

“The Senate overturned late Obama-era rules Thursday meant to protect consumer privacy from internet service providers that want to sell it. “

I agree with the Senate , yes overturn stupid Obama government regulations no matter how “consumer protective” this article says they were.

The ISPs want more subscribers, but in order to provide internet service to rural or low population areas and keep it affordable for those customers, they need to offset the costs with advertising revenue.

This will create two tiers: opt in for a lower price, opt out for a higher price.

The alternative is taxing everyone and using those funds to subsidize rural internet access, or everyone moves to cities.

This is terrible and allows the government to legally buy your browse history data.

It allows advertisers to buy data~government already has it if what has been divulged by Snowden and others this week is true (I think it is.)

I am not familiar with this website, Inverse. Do you have any other sources?

Actually, someone told me about this legislation today, so I would like to know more.

“If you are concerned about your privacy then sign up to opt out.”

That’s precisely the problem with this vote. What it reverses *is the option to opt-out*.
