New Zealand’s favorite opera soprano recorded a version in 1987 that gives you a feeling of what the song sounded like in the show. Gershwin was conversant with the music of Gilbert & Sullivan, and it shows.

THE SAVOY ORPHEANS: “WAIT A BIT, SUSIE”

Gershwin’s songs for this show were recorded liberally in England, but they were almost unknown here until 50 years later when the show received its American premiere. This is typical British jazz dance band music.
