We all need to be careful about getting too carried away with suggested, but unsupported, narratives. That is what the left has done to Trump over the manufactured “Russia hacked it” narrative.

The leftist media didn't "get carried away" with an unsupported narrative.

That narrative was being churned out and directed. It was purposed and planned.

Certainly, but you must agree that it has taken on a life of its own. The seeds were planted and after that everything - true or not true - was defacto proof of the larger allegation. That is how these things work.

Consider the false story that Homeland Security was buying a couple of thousand armored vehicles. The day the click-bait blog post was made for that story there was a Navy Times article that briefly mentioned that the Marine Corps had a contract to refurbish their MRAP vehicles. Homeland Security was not mentioned anywhere in the narrative nor did they have anything to do with it. That pseudo-fact grew into a firestorm here on FR, in the right wing media, and on other web forums to the point that a congressman actually called for hearings. What ever happened to that hearing? Nothing. It was not true. Homeland Security had about a dozen of these vehicles given to them by the DRMO program for the military. Reportedly only about half of them were operable. Local law enforcement and even some state police agencies took them. We can debate the merits of law enforcement having armored vehicles, but this story was an absolute lie that grew like a grass fire and disappeared without a whimper because it was not true. However, within the last month I saw a poster here mention something to the effect of “Homeland Security got thousands of armored vehicles under Obama.” The damage was done and this person clearly believed something that was not true.

That is my point. I am becoming more skeptical of things that I read - not because they are not true on their face and not because they do not fit my worldview narrative. I just believe there is enough stuff to be upset about that I know to be true. I still read them and consider them, but just because I read it here on FR or elsewhere does not make something true.

That is my word of caution for consideration. FRegards
