He should have taken the dog to the vet and had it put down. Perfectly legal. Also some vets will cut a dogs vocal cords to quiet its bark. Again legal.

Five years seems excessive to me. Many rapists get off with less.

Or go to the Walmart and cough up five bucks for a muzzle. Had some a- hole neighbors get their spaniels vocal cords cut. Still ran around the pole in their yard, barking... just muffled. Only time it was ever happy was when it escaped and ran into the woods, probably chasing quail.
