Agents for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 82 people in Virginia, Maryland and the District last week, including one who they said was identified as an officer in command of a Somali organization known for human rights abuses, rape, torture and killings.

All good points.
Trump expanding the list of deportable offenses, and making a demonstrable effort to enforce immigration law are both very important signs that will come into play next time SCOTUS hears an immigration case. The previous administrations lackadaisical approach to enforcement was sighted in cases like Plyler, so the Court will have to find some other contortion of logic in order to rule in favor of Illegals and their enablers also with Gorsuch on the bench, that is unlikely.
How are illegal crossings actually measured?
Went to ASU, so familiar with the AZ situation.
It is easier for someone to leave AZ and go to another state than leave the country by self-deportation. While you could be right, I’m skeptical.
This article basically talks about people “not going out”, hunkering down: http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/local/237528981-story
While it maybe too early to turn on President Trump, he needs to deliver on his promise to deport illegals in large numbers. By more time, I mean months, not years.
I imagine you know. It’s by apprehensions.
Yeah, I know Obama played with the numbers by ordering the BP to look the other way. Less apprehensions = fewer crossings. There’s zero evidence Trump is following that policy.

That article is packed with fantastic news. If they’re this petrified in a place like Chicago, despite constant assurances from Rahm, how long do you think they can hold out?
Waiting for another President?!?! LOL!!
IOW, 5 per day in each state. Add a few zeros and I might be impressed.
Check your definitions.
140 new applications and 690 renewals per day. Operating exactly as it did before Trump took office. And still not legal.

They could find ten times as many living in luxury houses in Falls Church alone. But then they all donate significant amounts to political campaigns.
Good question, not really an answer though. Those counted are those that are detained, the total number is truly unknown. At times the government has made statements that they catch as few as 1 in 10 or as many as 1 in 3 but I think that just depends on what politicians are pushing at the moment. Many crossers are repeat crossers so if one illegal is caught 3 times in a year they would be counted as three crossers. Something like that is so easy to fudge numbers on too so who really knows is the best answer.
I can tell border crossings are up or down in my area by looking out my kitchen window, driving around, and observations of my husband and neighbors that spend a lot of time horseback and see things off the beaten path. I can only tell for my area though, increased enforcement in some areas causes them to just go through another area. There is increased enforcement in my area right now but I can’t tell you what is happening in other areas.
Numbers of illegals crossing in my area is down noticeably right now. However this area is now more dangerous than it has been in years. Border Patrol is going into areas they did not before and flushing smugglers out to areas they did not use before- like our secondary roads. Lots of pursuit activity going on here. One recent pursuit led to the Interstate being closed for a while and several have had our state highway shut down at times.
Those of us that live here and pay attention knew this would happen though, the smugglers are getting desperate. Previous administration had allowed the Cartels to control large areas of our country along the border. Of course it is and will be difficult to regain control of those areas.
Thanks for that informative post.
I take it to mean that some have dropped the effort and others have not. Some, the drug runners, have pressing business but mothers might fear for their kids.
Time will tell
That article is from January 23rd. A whopping 3 days after Trump was sworn in. So as I say, those DACA apps would have been in the pipe.
This administration is a joke. Obama’s ICE “sweeps” were in the several 100’s and they were sharply criticized as being ridiculously low and nothing but window dressing. Sessions puts the kabosh on arresting illegals when he says ICE isn’t going to go after “law-abiding” illegals. Political correctness, fear of CAIR, and the ACLU. This is no different than Obama’s policy of only going after illegals who have committed serious crimes. And boy howdy don’t you think the illegals know all this? Think Telemundo. Univision. They all watch it. The ones in my neighborhood in Florida are very in your face with their new clothes, cars and pickups, remodeled homes, free healthcare, work under the table, foodstamps, law enforcement looking the other way whenever they break the law, all the while harboring contempt and animosity towards those who have made their privileged existence here possible.
And it is now April and DACA is still operating as if it were law when it is not.
USCIS is still accepting applications and processing renewals as if this were a legal program.
Some are illegals are already self deporting and some are deciding not to come based upon the current political climate here. Not large numbers but every one counts and I think more will self deport than people imagine. I have already noticed vehicles headed South of me (that road only goes to the border) loaded with household goods. I have not seen a lot of them, but enough to notice.
If someone is here illegally and has been long enough to accumulate “stuff” and they get deported suddenly it is hard to keep their things beyond what they can carry on them. If they decide to go back on their own then they can sell things, pack the rest and in that way not lose what they have. Many will see it that way as they see others get deported and lose everything. Single illegals with few possessions will likely stay and see what happens but many families with a lot of possessions will make the choice to move back. I did see a noticeable number move back to Mexico when Arizona got tougher on illegals a few years back.
Of course we all have to remember illegals are here from nearly every country in the world and those from countries other than Mexico are far less likely to just leave though even some of them will.
Of course it is. According to the USCIS website it’s still open for business. They are still processing applications from before Trump was sworn in. A majority of those applications will take 4 to 6 months because additional documentation has been requested.
The only question of any consequence is how many currently dated applications are successful.
If you believe the abundance of recent news pieces claiming millions of Illegals are paralyzed with fear because of ICE sweeps, they wont even venture outside. Call me crazy but I think the LAST thing most Illegals will do is offer up their current address, contact info, and history to any federal agency.
Trump is waiting for Gorsuch confirmation. Then the Asst U.S. Atty Genl needs to be confirmed. At that point Trump can take on the judicial overreach. So he has ‘dialed back’ the illegal alien arrests with existing warrants first, in case appeal is made by alien.
Then he will impose orders that affect illegal aliens the judiciary claims jurisdiction over within our borders. THAT will result in a court fight.
Personally I would like to see a judge arrested by U.S. marshals for aiding and abetting and taken to Gitmo. Well .... maybe a couple. Better yet, a handful ...
>
“why isn’t that number 820 or 8200?”
I’d like to see more action too. But I think there must be an equal, if not larger number of self deportations as these actions continue.
>
Sorry, but unless you have some stats....We see govt vs. govt, a wimpy AG threatening the former and read stories of a score arrested every month. NOT what I would call ‘troubling’ were I to be here illegally.
Nobody’s talking of ending welfare, ‘Dreamers’ is still illegally alive, the border wall is all but on hiatus, etc. so why worry?? Nobody’s serious ‘bout protecting the Country, let alone We the People.
>
That makes me wonder if some of the nasties fro the middle east, Africa and Russia may no be jumping the border into Mexico or Canada.
>
Best hope you are correct, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath knowing what is still ‘hired’ by govt.
