Jerry Brown’s 12-Cent Gas Tax Passes Legislature on Deadline
Breitbart ^ | April 7, 2017 | Joel B. Pollak

Both houses of the California legislature passed a 12-cent gasoline tax hike on Thursday, meeting Governor Jerry Brown’s deadline to provide an estimated $52 billion in new revenues, ostensibly for transportation infrastructure. The bill, which also raises Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) fees, barely reached the two-thirds majority needed to raise taxes in both the State Assembly and the State Senate. Passage marks a huge political victory for Gov. Brown, who is in his fourth and final term as governor. The political consequences for legislators, however, have yet to be seen, as voters have not yet felt the pinch of a tax hike that, critics say, will hit rural and working-class Californians hardest.

California is already one one of the top states in gas taxes. On top of that because of mandates CA can't use gas from other parts of the country and there is indirect carbon tax on gas. The state for years has diverted proceeds from gas taxes to fund other gov't spending.

And none of the money will go to its intended purpose. They'll use it as any good politician would, viz. to buy votes from the deadbeat class of voters. This is the reason the whole of America is in such deplorable shape. Not everybody deserves to vote.

They should have a website that shows how much money was brought in for a given month and the infrastructure projects that money is being spent on.

The state lottery money was going to be spent on the schools.

Moonbeam must truly hate California because he’s doing a bang up job of screwing up everything he possibly can. High taxes, a terrible business environment, massive over-regulation, prioritizing illegals over citizens and prioritizing weird animals and insects over all humans, dumping a sh*t-ton of money into a bullet train project that’ll never see dollar one in net profit and may never even see completion, and the list goes on and on.

The bill, which also raises Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) fees...

A guy in our church is a retired CHiP officer; he couldn't believe the difference in cost to tag a vehicle in Missouri compared to CA.

“But Gov. Brown gained an ally in the one Republican to vote for the new tax hike, State Sen. Anthony Canella (R-Ceres), who supported the measure in exchange for a project in his district, according to yourcentralvalley.com.”

Openly buying a vote...cool.

12 cents is too low. Should be a $2.00 tax. For the children.

Unless one is rich or poor on welfare and like they don’t and move out. Check out the difference in U-Haul rates to and from CA.

So what does that put us at?

$.78 cents per gallon?

Women, children and the poor will be hardest hit.

That’s an additional $2.40 per tank...

Nice job

Guess they figured we would pay since we were paying $4-$5 per gallon just a few years back...

Still, that makes the current tax 30%-50% of a gallon depending on where you buy...

And on top of that, California charges sales tax on gasoline.

So, Calif. drivers pay the federal gas tax, the existing state gas tax, the new 12 cent gas tax, a variable carbon tax, and sales tax when buying gas.

How much can you tax one product???

the same guy sold his vote the last tax increase and now he’s termed out and going for county board of supervisors. This is bribery, but since these are not normal people nothing to see here.

Elections have consequences. the Hispanics, Asians and white snowflakes gave the Rat party a super majority last Nov. and they aren’t going to let it go to waste. A $2 a pack new cigarette tax just went into effect last week as well.
