So, you say that you’re a Christian.
Care to speculate on what will happen to the 11% of Syrian population that is Christian after US action accomplishes regime change and transforms Syria from a secular autocracy to a Sunni-dominated Islamic republic?
American interventions have a history of being absolutely horrible for local Christians. For example, US interventions in East Timor, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya have caused nearly genocidal consequences for local Christians. US foreign policy with respect to Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, etc. has done no favors for Christians, either. For example, the US did very little in Sudan while the Sunni majority was persecuting local Christians. Instead, it only got interested when the Sunnis were finished with the local Christians and turned to wiping out the local animists.
I wish I still had a pollyannaish view that US foreign policy could achieve favorable outcomes for Christians or for the interests of peace. But history and common sense about the people who actually determine US foreign policy makes me extremely pessimistic.
Thanks for your post.
I answered someone earlier on this topic, and I think it will clearly express to you my take on this.
