`If you were the typical American who can`t afford to eat much beef, you would see this as a major loss`

Not unless you were an economic illiterate.

I bet he did. Trump wants China to let us handle North Korea without them objecting in any way.

Later on we can talk about the South China Sea and the real trade issues, but I expect NK is higher on his list.

highlight the above address and paste it so you can be directed to this podcasts

copy this address and it states how and why the Chinese are afraid of a trade war. This is a podcast about billionaires and it interviews them and gives investment summaries of books that they read. It is an eye opening podcast. That states the Chinese and the world is now in an investment bubble due to quantitative easing and that we can now see how screwed the world and the US is.

This isn't a "buy gold" site or a doom and gloom site. It is only about the views and opinions of billionaires and their investment strategies.

I'd like anyone that listens to this podcast to chime in and let me know what you think.

Exactly.

The the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled one month ago that China has been dumping medium sized truck tires (20-68% depending on the factory). China did not argue with the studies assessment of subsiies

http://www.tirebusiness.com/article/20170222/NEWS/170229987/no-antidumping-countervailing-duties-on-chinese-truck-bus-tires

You’ll never guess what happened. The tariff did not pass.

The 6 panel judges went to a panel of 5 judges 3 days b4 the verdict. You need 3 votes for the tariff.

The judges stated: Yes, they are clearly dumping tires into the USA but the USA is not experiencing any damages from it...so no tariff.

Tell that to the 800+ retreading factories that can no longer compete with a a Chinese Tire that is getting a 20-70%+ subsidy (which is actually coming from the interest on US debt paid to the Chinese gov).

The highly subsidized Chinese tires are devastating the market for retreads (which 18 wheel trucks frequently use to maximize the use of their tires and decrease tire costs).

So much for saving factory jobs. But hell, USDA beef going to China will really help local farmers (or is that global farmers).

Trump is a neocon globalist...or so I was told by the Nevertrumpers in this place. I also read Gorsuch was confirmed today and a car manufacturer is going to spend money in this country. I know, the Nevertrumpers are doing so much more.

Arguing this with a liberal is like trying to convince them the sun rises in the east every morning, yeah it comes up in that direction but that doesn’t mean it is so. Those two other jobs also create jobs because they people buy houses, cars, washers, clothes etc... and they pay taxes which generates revenue for local, state and the feds, but you cannot get a liberal to see this. They would rather a government job is created or a handout given.

I actually worked in the manufacturing sector for over 40 years. Industrial chemicals and I started as a chemist. When I retired I owned a manufacturer’s distributorship selling and installing manufacturing and pollution control equipment.

My understanding is the issues are huge not small. The fact that Chinese products do not have to meet the same safety and quality standards as American products, that China breaks patents, that it engages in industrial espionage, and uses prison labor.

USA can and should tax imports. Especially when they are killing real USA jobs and business.
Duh. A judge panel says we cannot? Leave the organization that pretends to rule USA.

Yeah, beef prices at the supermarket are coming back down. Seeing burger at $2.49, it was $4-5.

I have a degree in common sense. Beef will be more affordable once again, when the costs of production are brought down and/or when incomes rise for the average American. The level of Beef production is not static, but responds to market forces on both the supply and demand side.

`Screw that. We want all products including all manufacturing, agriculture, mining, oil/gas.`

Exactly. There`s too much common sense in your comment that I had to read it twice just to make sure. Common sense has become a rare comodity around here lately.

"I have a degree in common sense"

There ya go: the dictionary definition of populism is to believe in or advocate for the wisdom an virtue of the common man.

So we know that you are not an economist and I doubt that you know anything about livestock either.

There is another issue.... quality.

the interstates are littered with the remnants of retreads

do the chinese tires out perform the retreads?

It seems you don’t understand the process

The Chinese offer was a politeness as the gathering sits down around the table to begin the real talks

Regarding beef, if there is the prospect of new sales to China, herds will expand. America has lots and lots of ranch land..... even in Tennessee and Virginia
