That was a different era. Crenshaw never could hit it much out of his shadow. And this past Sunday would have been Seve Ballestero’s 60th birthday. Not to diminish the accomplishments of Harvey, but Seve is the fountainhead of Spanish golf.
Make no mistake! I was pulling for Sergio. Different times aside, country aside, I was pulling for him on Sunday. But no major until then? Thank you!
The gods of golf are not always kind. Remember Robert De Vicenzo? A scorecard error was it.
I remember a PRACTICE round drive that Seve took at Colonial in the late ‘80s . . . Standing on one foot and swinging with one hand (the driver, holding it with only his left hand) and he hit it straight down the fairway about 275 yards! A true show for all who witnessed it!! It was truly amazing feat!!! It was similarly a truly and moment for Sergio to break through on the anniversary of Seve’s 60th. But do not diminish the feat that Ben accomplished in HIS week. Were there no others on the course?
Oh and the old adage . . . drive for show, putt for dough.
