Conservatism: the recognition that some lessons were learned over very long times and at tremendous cost (money & lives), and that it is very easy to go crashing down to where those lessons must again be learned the hard way.

Leftism: the belief that “if I don’t immediately understand or like X, it’s wrong and may/should be ignored”, coupled with “I’ll figure it out for myself”, not realizing how long it will take to recover from screwing things up.

Leftism is more like “Conservatism may have learned these hard lessons via thousands of years of trial and error.

But I’M here now, and I’M smarter than anyone else who has ever lived! So let’s toss the playbook and start over.”

Literally that’s how they think.
