HONG KONG/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Documents and computer files released by hackers provide a blueprint for how the U.S. National Security Agency likely used weaknesses in commercially available software to gain access to the global system for transferring money between banks, a review of the data showed.

On Friday, a group calling itself the Shadow Brokers released documents and files indicating NSA had accessed the SWIFT money-transfer system through service providers in the Middle East and Latin America. That release was the latest in a series of disclosures by the group in recent months.

Matt Suiche, founder of cybersecurity firm Comae Technologies, wrote in a blog post that screen shots indicated some SWIFT affiliates were using Windows servers that were vulnerable at the time, in 2013, to the Microsoft exploits published by the Shadow Brokers. He said he concluded that the NSA took advantage and got in that way.

So now we have a Federal agency, and likely more, who are committing Grand Larceny on several banks. I wonder who received the money and what it was used for.

Good thing I have no money. Nothing for anyone to steal!

there was a huge scandal many years ago where a guy was suing the federales because they basically stole his intellectual property that was some sort of backdoor computer program that could be used against financial institutions?.....I'm reaching here I know..

IIRC, the guy eventually "died" in a peculiar way...

Danny Casalero wrote the article.

The Octopus:

Seems to me there was another, but it addressed Cointel and government abuse.

Thanks.

I thought it was the “Octopus”, but that may have only been a term for it.

It involved Cointel, I believe. (or something close to that)

PROMIS = stolen financial database software

Octopus = people in government involved in arms dealing, money laundering and drugs

COINTELPRO = FBI program intended to infiltrate anti-government groups and turn them violent to discredit them

Worth revisiting Rep. Kanjorski's interview on the financial crisis of 2008.

I guess that’s why Intel budgets are “black” budgets. They steal the money to run their ops and get some from the Congress, too.

It’s been a while.

Thanks Cherry. Old familiar names to many of us...

As time has gone by though, with nothing coming of any of the investigations, I’ve simply allowed the old memories to die off.

Now, now they provided many hours of entertainment for Freepers and maybe a few sound bytes to generate campaign contributions.

The problem for me was that there was an awful lot of skulduggery going on. It was obvious.

Senator Dole had the Clinton’s nanny sitting in front of him, and refused to ask her if she got a call from Washington informing the people there in Arkansas of Foster’s death.

The follow on question would have been, what time was it.

He held nothing but contempt for the process.

In all the hearings, it was clear there was no real attempt to get to the truth.

We knew more than the Senators or Congressmen questioning witnesses.

It was like watching the FBI people lie to the committee about Waco. We knew the lies they were telling, and the committee members would listen and say, “Okay. Well thank you very much. That’s what I thought”, when they were obviously lying.

I recall Jack Brooks getting up after dismissing the panel and saying; I would have put a rocket in that tower first thing. No bias there for sure.
