The Koran’s story about Adam being made from “clots of blood” is confusing to me.

The Koran is just weird. A jumble of semi-coherent to completely incoherent ravings. They vacillate from reasonable sounding surahs from Mohammad's days in Mecca, to his murderous admonishments from his latter days in Medina (and since the Medina rants were made later - they abrogate the Mecca reasonable surahs).
