Maggie Thatcher, Part II? Britain's May Calls Snap Election To Keep Far Left From Sabotaging Brexit

Brexit: Surprising her political foes and delighting her supporters, British Prime Minister Theresa May has decided to call a snap election for June 8. It's a big risk, but one that's worth taking.

May will use the six weeks before the surprise election — calling a snap election is a power all British prime ministers have — to strengthen the case for Britain leaving the European Union by bolstering her Conservative Party's parliamentary majority.

It's a risk, but one that's worth taking.

May had earlier rejected the idea of holding an earlier election than the one scheduled for 2020. But strong poll showings for her party and continued bickering over the Brexit move prompted her to change.

"I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election," May said.

She charged other political parties — in particular, the anti-Brexit Labor Party, the Scottish National Party, and the Liberal Democrats — with "game playing" and said this endangered "our ability to make a success of Brexit and ... will cause damaging uncertainty and instability to the country."

It seem like the only people with balls in Britain are women. (with apologies to Nigel Farage and Tony Blair, with whom I hold respect).

Very interesting. At first hearing, I thought it was a sign of weakness. This could be a bold move. Thanks for posting.

I wonder how many Americans recognize what SOVEREIGNTY really means. Once lost it is hell to try to get it back!

In Thailand, the current Prime Minister did the same. He seized the power to take away from radical lefts and big monies. Soros’ NGO is trying to bring him down. Unfortunately, USA, especially Rex Tillerson, thinks he’s an enemy then trying to sanction his administration. Sad.
