Unable to untangle his complex financial holdings to the satisfaction of the Office of Government Ethics, Cubs board member Todd Ricketts, tapped by President Donald Trump to be the Deputy Commerce Secretary, on Wednesday withdrew his nomination, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

Ricketts, a Wilmette resident who is a member of the billionaire Ricketts clan, was willing to divest his considerable personal portfolio of holdings, but that was apparently not enough. Some of the Ricketts investments are in family enterprises, including the Cubs.

I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that the Chicago papers (and the Obama regime itself) didn’t expect the same degree of financial purity when Obama appointed Penny Pritzker (another Chicago-area billionaire) Secretary of Commerce. And that despite the fact that Pritzker had a checkered (to put it mildly) financial past in terms of her involvement in the Superior Bank scandal.

This is what is wrong with rigged “conflict of interest” definitions !

Someone who owns a baseball team can’t past muster because of their investments - even if the potential for self-enrichment is really remote.

But some influence peddling “lobbyist” or fake “gov’t relations VP” at some crony capitalism corp. skates right thru the revolving door because their wealth is human capital (which they build up massively with a gov’t job) as well as the ability to do “favours” for their future employers.

Human capital and crony connections to future employers/clients is the very worst of the DC Swamp, and targetting it should be Job One for Trump.

Career politicians made the rules so that only career politicians would be eligible. God forbid we should have successful business people bring their acumen to government. And rob career statists of employment advancement opportunities.
