Springsteen joined with frequent collaborator Joel Grushecky on the track.

Grushecky told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he wrote the song after Trump took office in January.

“I had this song, and Bruce and I had been talking. I sent it to him and he liked it. I said, ‘What do you think about singing on it?’ He gave it the Bruce treatment.”

Springsteen hits Trump for his reported distaste for reading in one verse, singing “And don’t you brag to me/That you never read a book/I never put my faith/In a con man and his crooks.”

The chorus of the song takes a positive note, as both artists sing “It’s up to me and you/Love can conquer hate/I know this to be true/That’s what makes us great.”

Springsteen is a longtime supporter of Democratic candidates, having backed both former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton during their campaigns.

The hypocritical, lying left should be honest and write lyrics according to what they actually believe and practice:

Eliminating the United States of America…That’s what makes us great.

Keeping our boots on the throats of regular Americans…That’s what makes us great.

Eliminating free speech protections and promoting oppressive PC Thought Police…That’s what makes us great.

Preferring foreigners, even violent ones, to every law-abiding American…That’s what makes us great.

Promoting criminals over victims, mediocrity over accomplishment, and insisting on no standards or morality…That’s what makes us great.

Turning the Constitution into a piece of toilet paper that only means what we want from day to day…That’s what makes us great.

Ghettoizing minorities and keeping them on the Democrat plantation for their votes…That’s what makes us great.

Hating and trying to bring down all who don’t consider themselves oppressed by the evil American nation…That’s what makes us great.

Making job creators the number one enemy…That’s what makes us great.

Trying to overturn any election we don’t like…That’s what makes us great.

Turning a new no-borders, globalist, unrecognizable USA into a Venezuela-style hellhole…That’s what makes us greatest of all.

Can’t sing nor write, worthless. I will say he has fortitude after coming back from a long hiatus. However, he still stinks.

I have to admit I still like Springsteens work in his prime years (1973 - 1984). But from Tunnel of Love on he has absolutely sucked. He knows it too. That is why he has gone full scale left, it brings him an energized fan base.

Not surprising. Springsteen has always been an over-rated turd of the left. The world will be a better place when he is pushing up daisies.

That’s JOE Grushecky. Not Joel. From Pittsburgh, barely talented. Had a band called the “Iron City House Rockers” in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Other musicians I knew called them the Iron City Horse Hockers. Joe hasn’t got better with age, and has always sucked up to his buddy Springsteen.

Won’t be listening to this for the same reason I have no Springsteen music released after 1980 other than a 12” single of “Pink Cadillac”: because that and “The River” were the last things he put out that I thought were worth listening to more than once, if that. He still puts on a good show (even if the music gets repetitious, at least he’s out there working hard for three hours), but his recent tunes have become weak and his lyrics are trite, cliched and pedantic. Honestly, put aside any partisan political feelings and just look at those anti-Trump song lyrics. This guy is a great poet? I’ve seen better writing on bumper stickers.

He’s a classic case of someone who let success in one very limited field (he’s a college dropout who was really good at playing pre-Beatles oldies in Jersey bars) convince him he was a genius who understands complicated subjects like economics. The easiest tactic for an ignorant person who wants to be praised as an intellectual is to spout fashionably leftist political rhetoric. And so we get a lot of hypocritical socialist boilerplate from a multimillionaire who claims his estate as a farm so he can cheat his home state out of property taxes.

BTW, I clicked the link to the review of his autobiography. It’s interesting but could have been much harsher. The writer is obviously a huge fan disappointed to find out what a small man is behind all those big rock anthems. But he still thinks Bruce is a musical genius, even mentioning him alongside Mozart, which is laughable. I was in high school when all those “Bruce is the future of rock” articles appeared, and I thought it was a lot of hype and warmed-over Phil Spector even then. He created a recognizable sound that’s largely a pastiche of earlier, more creative performers, and he puts on an impressive live show by working so long and hard. That makes him a good entertainer, not a musical genius. When it comes to songwriting, he’s not even on the same planet as Ray Davies or David Bowie.
