There's always vocational schools, or the Armed Forces. A friend of mine's nephew got out of the Navy where he learned how to work on Diesel engines. Working on Diesels may not be the most glamorous job out there but if he plays his cards right he could do very damn good for himself. Not to mention possess a skill that's a trillion times more useful than a PhD in gender studies.

I know a few Plumbers that make more Money than I did when I was a Corporate Vice President.
If I had it to do over again, I would have gone to Trade School.
