There is no “freedom of expression” when taxpayer money is involved. Public art should be restricted to the common values underpinning a country. The avante garde should be in the private sector. Behind opaque walls. With age restrictions on entry.
The proof that this isn’t freedom of expression is that there is no “Piss Koran,” nor any Severed Obama Head painting in the gallery. Because none of that sh*t would be art. It’s pornography and hate. Just as this so-called professor’s piece of sh*t is.
What is interesting is how artists are now getting sued if they use a photograph as a "model" to make a painting.
Prince's estate is suing Andy Warhol's estate for unauthorized copying of a photo of Prince, which Warhol silk screened.
Even MLK's estate controls his image, and his speeches.
Cannot use them unless you pay up.
Hope this "artist" didn't copy a photo without permission.

Someone should Photoshop a version of the same painting with Thomas Chung’s head substituted for Trump. I think it’s time to turn the tables on these people.

When the powers that be refuse (and they will), find a lawyer and sue the University.
