Tucker Carlson Dominates in Ratings on First Night in Bill O’Reilly’s Old Time Slot

Fox News dominated its first night in the post-Bill O'Reilly era as "Tucker Carlson Tonight" averaged 3.2 million viewers in the program's first night occupying the 8 p.m. ET timeslot.

The debut of Carlson's new timeslot won was the most-watched cable news program in both viewers and the key demo of adults age 25-54.

Carlson began his program with a message to viewers who made "The O'Reilly Factor" the most-watched show in cable news for nearly two decades.

"For those of you tuning in expecting to see someone different in this anchor chair, I know the feeling well. I watched Bill O'Reilly at this hour for years and I always marveled at how well prepared he was, how tough he was and how crisply and directly he expressed his views," Carlson said. "What O'Reilly did was not easy... He set a high bar and I'm gonna do my best to meet it. Thanks for sticking with us."

"The Five" also beat it competition in the first night it occupied the 9 p.m. ET timeslot, averaging 2.8 million viewers compared to 2.2 for MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show." CNN averaged 881,000 viewers, finishing third. Among the key demo, "The Five" averaged 568,000 viewers compared to Maddow's 524,000. CNN finished third, averaging 305,000 viewers between the age 25-54.

Carlson moved from 9 p.m. ET to 8 p.m. ET to replace O'Reilly, who was fired from Fox News Channel amid allegations of sexual harassment. "The Five" moved to 9 p.m. and a new show featuring Fox News host Eric Bolling will launch at 5 p.m. ET next week.

This still does not give slack to the Murdock boys and the entire liberal family. That verdict will come later; after the newness wears off, when/if FOX continues its slide toward the left and becomes a complete foreigner to American Conservatives.

While I’m happy for Tucker and the rest; I’ll never forget the way the metrosexual leftist murdoch boys pushed out O’Reilly. Like him or not he did a lot of good for the conservative side at times while threading a needle while trying to not appear too partisan.

I know a lot of people think he’s arrogant and they would be right IMHO but that’s just the way some people are built; especially New Yorkers. I learned to look past that annoying trait decades ago. It’s all a facade anyway until it’s not.

I wish BOR all the success going forward and I hope the women who falsely accused him get what karma demands of them. That means for their sake I hope they weren’t lying because stuff like that really does catch up with someone and this was a career killer for those ladies as well as for BOR.

Me too. I really like Tucker Carlson and was already watching him but I think those rat sons of murdoch planned this. I think they are in cahoots with Soros and will work to ruin Fox until it is the same leftist dribble as all the other network and cable news sources.

I was use to O’Reilly’s ways and just accepted how he was the way you just accept people for who they are. It was the content he delivered that kept me watching his show.

I’m sure it will slide with those two SOBs (sons of boss) ruining it. I am watching more Fox Business especially Lou Dobbs that is in the same time slot with Martha MacCallum. I refuse to watch her ever since I found out she is BFFs with Stephen Colbert.

Anyone that would hang out with that jerk can’t possibly be conservative.

Assume the ratings were because of the mentally disturbed Bruce Jenner. The “folks” tuning in to watch the freak-of-a-train-wreck, perhaps? Not for me.

actually Tucker will appeal to younger people

Conservatives need younger people to be involved.

this is why Tucker and Milo and Watters etc are vitally important

I am watching more Fox Business especially Lou Dobbs

***********************************************************

Ditto, Dobbs is a kick ass Conservative (some say libertarian)but he is in any case solidly pro Trump and anti GOPe, especially Ryan who he seems to despise.

The show leading up to Dobbs,Charles Payne “Making Money” is also excellent.

BTW, ever since September of 2016 FBN has been beating CNBC in the ratings. CNBC has been around since 1989 (28 yrs) while FBN was launched in 2007. It took just 9 yrs for the new kid from Fox to overtake the offspring of NBC. When FBN signed Maria Bartoromo, the “Money Honey” CNBC lost one of it’s most high profile and best loved reporters and it was at that time the long slide for CNBC began.

Look at what O’Reilly was accused of vs. What Clinton did, and how they were treated.

Carlson is more conservative than Bill and much more informed. The Five needs a couple more Conservatives and then Hannity. The night actually moved Right.

she is BFFs with Stephen Colbert.
_______________________

To Praise or to Condemn:
One almost has to commend her, being able to put aside political differences for friendship. Is Colbert that different that he is willing to allow friends with alternate beliefs to his speak their mind. Knowing a few liberals who were once thought of as friends - I’ve yet to meet many of these type liberals. They voice their conviction too early and the next stage of friendship is seldom reached (BFF)

OTOH The same could be said for Eric Bolling/Bob Beckle, Bill O’Reilly/Jon Stewart, Sean Hannity/the late, Allan Colmbs. The constant censorship becomes too great when it is one sided the majority of the time. Perhaps political commentators are a different breed of animal and can handle it.

Tucker does a great job; and I wish him well. When he does too well, the ‘boys’ will attempt to ditch him, too; then we’ll know for a fact that the Master’s sons have no love in their heart for Fox and less still for Conservative thought.

There are well over 200,000,000 voting age Americans.
These cable viewing numbers mentioned amount to somewhere aroung 3 percent of those people.

No, one doesn’t. Colbert is an insane liberal on the same lines as Joy Behar but worse. He is hooked up with the Podesta’s and Clinton. He has rabidly defended pizzagate and his pervert buddies, the Podesta’s. I don’t trust anyone that would hang out with perverts and I’m not going to watch any show they do.
