This is what I figured when I saw the news of the called meeting - it was for show as a form of saber rattling by Trump. IT indeed got the internet buzzing!

Not saying they did or they didn’t, but with all the senators out of their offices, it was also an opportunity for some security folks (looking like a cleaning crew?) to put some kind of sophisticated new surveillance devices in the senators’ offices. Even if they wanted to do that to just a handful of treasonous senators (McCain/Graham/Schumer/etc.), one way to insure those targeted senators would not be there would be to bring all the senators out of their offices to an external location at the same time. (Of course, I would be more inclined to believe that kind of thing happening in the previous administration than in this current one, but for drastically different purposes.)
Telling them to meet with the POTUS is above their job description? The bastards do very little, getting them out of their chairs was certainly no hardship on any of them.
If I know trump, he was sizing up his enemies at the same time.
