Democratic double standard on guns hurts the poor
The Hill ^ | May 8, 2017 | John R Lott Jr

When it comes to voting, Democrats see free ID cards as too burdensome on the poor.

But there’s no hesitation to impose fees, expensive training requirements, ID requirements, and onerous background checks on prospective gun owners.

Recently, the Texas legislature passed a bill reducing the fee for a five-year concealed handgun permit to $40.

The current fee of $140 is one of the highest in the country. The bill has come up twice in the state House, and only 32 percent of Democrats voted both times to lower the fee.

No Republican opposed the fee cut. If the legislation was up to just Democrats, the bill wouldn’t have come close to passing.

The Connecticut state government already charges $70 in initial fees for concealed handgun permits. Now Governor Dannel Malloy is fighting to raise that to $300.. . .

And if you _miss_ the 5 year renewal window, you have to start at square 1 again. ...and risk imprisonment if you don’t remember to renew/re-apply in time but carry anyway.

$40 every 5 years isn’t bad, at $0.67/month (aside from having to pay for a right, different discussion). It’s that jail time for a paperwork violation brought about by no notification of impending expiration years after issuance.

Under-discussed factor on licensing of rights: the staggeringly severe consequences of not perfectly complying with vague, and generally useless, requirements. When enacting/advocating laws, think about the cost of transgression imposed; there’s a surprising number of laws enforced with a small fine ... “or not more than 6 months in prison” - wait, what?

Read some interesting old articles recently.

In Gun-Controlled Venezuela, Dictator Promises Gun to Each Socialist Militant (April 19, 2017)

http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2017/04/19/venezuelan-president-giving-400000-guns-to-supporters-to-silence-opposition/

Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro is giving guns to upwards of 400,000 of his supporters in hopes of squashing opponents’ demands for free and fair elections.
The guns would increase the 100,000 pro-Maduro militia members to roughly half a million in the short term, though Maduro spoke of “one million” militiamen in the long term.

On Sunday night, Maduro ordered the National Bolivarian Militia, a coalition of armed socialist civilians empowered to enforce Maduro’s will, into the streets to stem the tide of opponents calling for elections to replace him. He promised “a gun for every militiaman” and the quadrupling of his civilian force, from 100,000 to 400,000, as soon as possible.

According to Fox News/AP/EFE, Maduro is framing his gun giveaway as a means of fighting outside forces controlled by America seeking to remove him from office.

Did You Know That Venezuela Banned Guns For Private Citizens Only 4 Years Ago?

http://www.activistpost.com/2016/05/did-you-know-that-venezuela-banned-guns-for-private-citizens-only-4-years-ago.html

The cautionary tale that is the rather spectacular collapse of Venezuela continues. Were you aware that Venezuela banned guns for private citizens a mere four years ago, in 2012? Although the country was already in trouble, it seems like that was the beginning of the end.

Under the reign of Hugo Chavez, the government introduced a law that banned personal purchases of firearms and ammunition in an attempt to “improve security and cut crime.” The law was designed to keep guns in the hands of only police, military, and some security companies.

At the time, Chavez’s government said that “the ultimate aim is to disarm all civilians.” Shortly after the law passed, Chavez lost a battle to cancer, and bus driver Nicolas Maduro became the new president.

Maduro invested $47 million in “disarmament centers” in 2014, where citizens could turn in their firearms without fear of repercussions. This was at about the same time as the government declared that prepping was illegal and those “hoarding” could be detained on criminal charges and when the country instituted a fingerprint registry for purchasing groceries so that they could ensure people only purchased what they were allotted.

Of course it's a good article from John Lott, but it's a good article from the Leftist excrement of "The Hill", with a reasonable graphic as well, surprise, surprise.

Still, quite a few Commie Rats litter the comments, but I suppose it's worth giving the Hill of Manure one hit.

Tennessee is $40 every 4 yrs, just went to LIFE TIME renewal for $200. I thought it well worth that when I renewed this time, they give you a month’s notice so there is no excuse not to have time to renew. And we are open Carry. With the exceptions of course. Some make sense, others don’t like the Mall, won’t go there, can’t carry.

I can see gov’t buildings, or property. Exception state parks, with dangerous wild life.
