I didn't read the story, but do they still leave most frozen bodies up there? It used to be too difficult and expensive to retrieve them. I saw a documentary where they use them as way points. 😨

It’s the world’s largest outdoor funeral parlor.

Makes me wonder, just how many bodies are still up there?

Yes, bodies are still there. If you die close to a crack or void, sometimes other climbers will dump your dead body into the hole so things won’t be so gruesome for everyone else. I think this mountain climbing “coolness” of Everest died out 20 years ago. But people still wait in line to do it, risking their lives. Weird.

The bodies stay bucause it’s usually not safe to remove them as others lost their lives trying to retrieve the bodies of their friends. The dead zone on the mountain is real as climbers make thier way the past dead to the summit. It is a heavy reminder of how dangerous it is to climb and easy to die.
