A mother who was at the Ariana Grande concert with her daughter has criticised security checks carried out as they entered the venue.
Dawn Waddy was at the Manchester Arena with her daughter Holly and a friend when the explosion took place and said there should have been more security staff in the arena.
She said: "We walked through the doors when we had our tickets and they scan your tickets and we wasn't even checked.
"They never checked bags at all, I never saw them check anybody's bags
She told Sky News: "We had somebody sat next to us, looked very suspicious, she was fidgeting all the time with a bag - on the floor, across her - she was by herself.
"She was looking in the direction of where the explosion actually happened all night and smirking to herself.
Mrs Waddy told security personnel of her concerns and staff monitored the woman but did not take any action.
She said: "They were up and down the stairs where she was sat discreetly watching her. Nothing was actually done about it.
"One to two minutes before the concert finished this lady disappeared and then of course the explosion went off at the other end of the stadium."
A Czech woman who was also at the concert in Manchester said there was only a cursory search of bags as people entered the arena

Authorities knew the perp and did nothing to stop him.
A mother sees something, says something. Authorities do nothing except reprimand her for attempting to stop the bombing.

The bomb did not go off in the arena, it went off in a vendor area before the ticket check, in a public space.
Her concern about someone acting oddly is irrelevant because the actual bomber was a male with no ticket who detonated in an area before any security. Much of her concern is after-the-fact.
I sympathize with her POV but would it make much of a difference if they checked bags at the doors or gates? At the entry point there would be lots of people probably more tightly packed than elsewhere. A bomber could choose that point to detonate and do as much or more damage.
In all the coverage I haven’t noticed any report about whether the terrorist used a suicide vest, or was carrying the bomb in a backpack or some other type of bag. Has anyone seen a report about how he carried the bomb?

The Mother says she reported to authorities someone was suspicious and they told her not to profile. Exactly what the neighbors in San Bernadino feared - being called racist - so they didn’t report that behavior.
Her belief is this woman was an accomplice.

At the starting line in Boston security was very tight, there was a lot of law enforcement and many bomb sniffing dogs. Very unusual. Hadn't happened in previous marathons.
Along the parade route and near the finish line were many men who looked like private security. Not mall cops but Marine/Seal types.
On reddit, the days following the marathon there were many pictures of the unusual security. They knew something was planned.
‘As people were coming out they were wearing the clothes and the colours of Ariana - white, black, pink. But for one split second I turned and saw what I can only describe as a bright red - that’s why it stood out - it was bright red, with a grey panel down the front with risen bits all over it.
‘And it was that that stood out because it was so intense, the colour, in this crowd of people. As quick as I saw it, the explosion happened.’
Good post. People are confused about the sequence of events. The bombing happened OUTSIDE the arena, when people were LEAVING.
