Portland Burrito Spot Shutters Amid Claims of Cultural Appropriation
Eater Portland, OR ^ | May 22, 2017 | Mattie John Bamman

Just shortly after WWeek announced Kooks Burritos — a small burrito pop-up with events at the Tight Tacos food cart in Southeast — the operation has shuttered and deleted much of its online presence. The closure coincides with public outrage at what some are calling the restaurant’s “appropriation” of another culture’s “intellectual property.”

I would tell them that in honor of the protesters, I would be serving a less appropriated, but certainly appropriate, recipe of Spotted Dick.

I have been to 20 Mexican states, in all regions of mexico. I have never ever even once seen an american style burrito. Things not part of mexican pallet

Back in the 1960's, you would not find burritos when you crossed the Colorado River into Arizona. In the Copper State, they were called burros, and some restaurants in Arizona still use that term.

What truly American dishes can you think of? Everything else is taken from another place.

I will start it off with POSSUM PIE. Invented in the USA.

Of course you would rapidly go broke selling that...

Yep, that is correct. My go-to Mexican dish is still a "green chile burro, enchilada style."

If I wasn't a lowrider from way back, I'd have no earthly idea what you were talking about ;-)

Ironic given that the “burritos” these dims bulbs eat are from San Francisco and/or SoCal and not Mexico.

They don't even use real burros.

This should be one of the “Top That” entries for a segment of Tucker Carlson’s program! It’s ridiculous!

Cultural appropriation? So no one can make or sell tortillas unless they are from Mexico or South America?

What about the thousands of Mexican food restaurants in the US, including chains like Taco Cabana, Taco Bell, etc.?

What about restaurants that serve Chinese, Japanese, German, soul food, Texas BBQ, etc.?

The politicians and judges in the Northwest US States have gone totally off the rails!

I demand all Mexicans STOP insulting me via their use of phones.

And Carlos Slim should pay his fair share in reparations to the descendants of Alex Bell for his illegal profits from same in his Mexican phone company gang.

Chef Boy-Ar-Dee is going to be in a heap of trouble in Portland. Talk about reparations.

First they came for the burrito makers, and I did not speak out—
Because I did not eat burritos.
Then they came for the croissant bakers, and I did not speak out—
Because I did not eat croissants.
Then they came for the pizza makers, and I did not speak out—
Because I did not eat pizza.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I’d like to see the argument of “cultural appropriation” concerning fried egs and bacon.

And internet. And cars. And planes. And electricity. And anti-biotics.

Alright, but outside of those things, what have white people EVER done for us?
