Full article title: "Melania and Ivanka wear black veils to meet the Pope at the Vatican after deciding not to wear head scarfs on Saudi visit (just like Michelle Obama) - as Pope asks the first lady if she's feeding Trump cake"

First Lady Melania Trump and the president's daughter, Ivanka, dressed in all black and wore veils to meet Pope Francis on Wednesday, just as former First Lady Michelle Obama did when she met Pope Benedict.

The women traveled to the Vatican on Wednesday with President Donald Trump, who was meeting with Francis for one of his most high-profile talks.

Trump, Melania, Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner were greeted in a Vatican courtyard by Archbishop George Ganswein, the prefect of the pontifical household.

Melania and Ivanka kept with tradition and wore veils to meet Francis. The veil, or mantilla, is traditionally worn by women as a sign of respect when meeting the Pope. Trump senior aide Hope Hicks wore one as well.

Go to Latin Mass, you will not hear nonsense. Also, go to church and pray before the Most Blessed Sacrament, He is the Great Healer.

When I first saw pics of him with our President, he reminded me of Obama. It’s that same expression that Obama has...how to describe it....contempt? anger? He’s the White Obama, Obama’s brother from another mother, LOL.

The dissonance between him and our President jumps off the page. There he is consumed with hate, and there is our Donald standing tall with his full wide smile. Gotta love our President!

from your article-
Traditionally, under Pope Benedict XVI and all those before him, the rule was that women should wear black to meet his Holiness, covering up with full sleeves and a mantilla, the lace veil traditionally worn in the Roman Catholic Church.

yeah, want to contrast that light and dark thing..

what’s the excuse for the sour puss on the face of your Father?

What is your proof that it is not her rosary? I don't doubt that they are given to people as a memento but how do you know she doesn't own one? I have inherited several from my mother. I suspect she was raised in some Catholic Orthodox tradition even if she doesn't practice it.

I have no proof. I am merely relating what I know to happen at that particular event based on personal knowledge and saying it cannot be used to prove she is Catholic. I have no idea if she is or isn’t. But the priest standing there offered her the rosary and I heard her say “oh, I would love that” and then the Pope blessed it for her.

Now you’ve really got me confused! It appears you DO have proof - in a video, right? I haven’t seen any footage of this event.

Read the news reports of their wedding. Melanias mother brought a large white candle for THEM to light that was used for her baptism.
(Her faith and religious practice is one thing she does not share with his other wives )

You are mistaken there. About 30% of the women and even young girls in our church wear veils every week.

Thank you for the information. It seemed logical that she was brought up devout, but without a source it's tough to talk to anyone about what an incredible woman Melania is.

FWIW, I found a wonderful MSNBC segment from before the election. It is a visit to Melania's hometown. There was no mention of religion, but there were real good interviews with people she grew up with. It comes across what a well-raised, grounded, classy person Melania has always been, from a very young age.

There are differences. I attend two different parishes, one is a largely Italian area(my wife’s), the other is predominately Irish Catholic. They are quite a bit different, and the Italian one is more conservative by quite a bit, although the priests are of the same style, and are pretty orthodox.

There were several good articles with pictures of her youth published Small town girl whose beauty always made her stand out. Milan was about thirty miles from home Going there to model at a young age was the ticket to the Western world. She has always been close to her parents (particularly her mother). They are probably staying with BarRON as his parents travel. Barron was taught their native lauguage as a toddler so he could talk with them. He now serves as their translator Barron also is fluent in French

Those who drink the spice mixed with the water which gave them special attributes. Much about the story is not remembered; it’s been years and a life time, after all.

I like the Trumps, however, ladies don’t wear hats or veils anymore in church and doing so made them look dumb

You're operating from a mistaken perspective. Women in the Catholic Church are returning to some of these long-standing (even ancient) traditions, and we see more and more veils at Mass, more kneeling, more taking the Eucharist directly on the tongue. Francis of course considers traditional beliefs and practices to be dreadful, and is trying to get rid of them, so the adherence to tradition that the Trump ladies showed was a subtle poke at his poor treatment of traditional Catholic Christians.

The purpose of the veil or mantilla is to show awe and submission to the real presence of Christ, not to Jorge Bergoglio himself. I try to wear one when I go to church. Most of the women wearing them are young, not middle-aged people like me.

I believe Melania is Catholic....

She and D/T were not married in a Catholic church....but she was seen carrying a rosary on her wedding day.

Melania’s home country, Slovenia, like most of those Eastern bloc countries, are influenced by Catholicism.
