I did a study of DOE expenses last fall. imho all the carbon sequestration programs should be eliminated but not the research programs. Rather what should happen is that the amount of research for fossil fuels should be increased to meet the amount of research on renewables. The goal of fossil fuel research should be to help the fossil fuel industry reduce costs.

What they want to do now is to reduce the amount of research on renewables to about that of fossil fuels. ... which amounts to almost nothing.

The problem with this is that what will happen is that the USA will get in smaller share of the rising renewable fuel market. Fossil fuels will do just fine without federal research until 6-8 years from now when rising production of electric cars caps demand for oil. While falling prices for solar and wind undercut prices for coal and natural gas. The problem will be that the USA will not be a primary player in the renewable fuel space.
