Judge won’t reinstate charges against Portland Black Lives Matter protesters

PORTLAND, Maine — A judge has blocked state prosecutors’ efforts to reinstate criminal charges against 17 Black Lives Matter protesters who were arrested in Portland last summer and ordered the protesters and Portland police to try again at talking through their differences in a so-called “restorative justice” session.

Cumberland County Superior Court Justice Lance Walker’s Tuesday ruling orders protesters and prosecutors to try to fulfill the conditions of a plea deal that broke down earlier this year.

The restorative justice agreement called for the protesters to sit down with city police to talk over their differences, to encourage mutual understanding between offenders and those affected by a crime.

The protesters were arrested last July during a demonstration that blocked a busy downtown intersection for several hours. The rally came at a high point of racial tension across the country, after police killed two black men in Louisiana and Minnesota and a black army veteran shot dead five Dallas police officers.

The settlement agreement in the case is believed to mark the first time restorative justice has been used in a civil disobedience case in Maine. It also includes conditions the protesters each pay a fine for a city ordinance violation and make a donation to a victims compensation fund, which they have done.

Shame on all of us for allowing this once great nation to devolve into a degenerate hell hole. We are way passed time for CW2. Way passed.

and ordered the protesters and Portland police to try again at talking through their differences

Did they break the law? If so, there's NOTHING to discuss.

WTF?

Impeaching the judge should be simple enough.

Let this be a lesson to the DA. No more plea deals that include "restorative justice," whatever that nonsense is supposed to be.

I'd point out that if the article is accurate, a dubious proposition I know, the criminals say they participated in this required/agreed session already, and the judge says they did not, and the DA appears to think they did not otherwise would not have put the cases back on the criminal docket.

I don’t think the Department of Justice is involved in this case.

It seems to be the actions of a county court judge.

One should not trust the Bangor Daily News to be factually accurate. It is a left wing rag, with a declining readership and advertising base.

Portland is the armpit of Maine, home of our liberal moonbat population.

“ordered the protesters and Portland police to try again at talking through their differences in a so-called “restorative justice” session.”
This reminds of the Christian pastors trying to convince their congregations to just get along with Islam. They must not know that according to Islam Jesus with reappear with Muhammad and tell Christians to convert to Islam or die. That will also be the fate of all non-believers.

BLM served the purpose intended and is essentially no longer a factor

In ten years there will be bald headed negros elected to congress with the only credential being a tattered BLM membership and some grainy I phone videos

That all amounts to approval and celebration of the protestors’ violence and destruction. In Portland, I suppose, that is appropriate.
