Kali Wilgus and Liz LC Connelly, owners of Portland pop-up shop Kooks Burritos, just wanted to make and sell some really great burritos. So when they were on a trip to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico, they picked the brains of the local tortilla ladies and brought those recipes back to the States.
I picked the brains of every tortilla lady there in the worst broken Spanish ever, and they showed me a little of what they did, Connelly told Willamette Weekly. They told us the basic ingredients, and we saw them moving and stretching the dough similar to how pizza makers do before rolling it out with rolling pins. They wouldnt tell us too much about technique, but we were peeking into the windows of every kitchen, totally fascinated by how easy they made it look. We learned quickly it isnt quite that easy.
Whelp, apparently this interview sparked an Internet shitstorm, which ended in Kooks Burritos shutting down and the two white women who owned it scrubbing social media of the business existence.
Wilgus and Connelly were accused of cultural appropriation by the Internet mob, and even the theft of PoCs recipes.

I’m sure they’re good Libs. Bernie or Hillary supporters. This is what happens when good girls decide to dabble in the dark art of entrepreneurism. Bitch-slapped by the invisible hand.
Agreed and they MUST stop eating hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, goulash, fried chicken, ice cream, pies, cookies, and almost everything else one can name.
Hey, ya’ll! Move your taco shop to Atlanta. We haven’t surrendered as has the Left Coast.
Also NO glass anything!
No T.V.s, no iPhones, no computers, no paper, no pencils, pens, vaccinations, cars, planes, and even more!
one by one, the Left eats its own, until no one remains.
Has anyone checked out these two women’s backgrounds?
I think it might be a pretty good guess that they’re progs themselves and have been devoured by their own.
Now that would be cosmic justice.
I think it’s official now: America is now crazier then even Canada.
That’s quite the accomplishment.
Welcome aboard the crazy train ‘peeps’.
I demand that all bakeries be cleansed of any and all items from any non-American culture.
LOL! Life of Brian! A classic!
The only thing taco bell appropriared was montezumas revenge.
Didn’t the famous chef and Mexican cookbook author Rick Bayless used to live in Mexico and that’s how he got his inspiration for recipes and his restaurant? I think his restaurant is call Fonda Frontera. I have several of his cookbooks.
From the website:
Mothers Day at Fonda Frontera: Were Cooking Moms Recipes
Weve always been inspired by the mothers of the traditional Mexican kitchen. In fact, Fonda Frontera owes its names to the fondas of Mexico City, those rustic and family-friendly neighborhood restaurants often helmed by a familys matriarch. As the Mothers Day holiday draws closer, Fonda Frontera, 1471 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park, will celebrate by featuring traditional dishes from the mothers of our Mexican staff members. The daily specials begin Tuesday, May 9 and run through Sunday, May 21.
There are very few things in this world more soul satisfying than a traditional Mexican meal cooked with love. Thats what we wanted to offer our guests, the homiest of home-cooked meals. We thought this would be a perfect celebration at Fonda Frontera, Rick said.

White guy stealing recipes from his employees’ Mexican Moms!
Shut him down!
This is typical liberals turning on their own. Are Kali Wilgus and Liz LC Connelly ready to come to the conservative side? Or will they be like the molested German women who were in favor of more abusive immigrants?
A lot of folks in Nebraska would tell you to go to hell, and the would not be polite about it!
I live in Ohio, and I would join them!
For the past 50 years, we have been forced by the unholy trio of Academia, the media, and the Left to accept multiculturalism, and revere and respect other cultures to the determent of our own. We’ve seen soccer replace football, tacos replace hot dogs, hummus replace onion dip, and nachos replace potato chips. Our restaurants celebrate Cinco de mayo, schools teach islam, craft stores sell dream catchers, and the calendars list islamic holidays. These are just a tiny tip of the iceberg.
Then, when, finally, Americans “embrace” these changes either out of habit or inundation, they are criticized for “cultural appropriation”.
I am SICK of it.
Such a thing does not exist!
If leftists didn’t have anything to be pissed off about, what would they do?
That could be a good thread with a lot of fun responses.
And you also better give up your guns, if you are not Chinese. Firearms were invented in China! /s;)
I would join you too, Runza is a gift from my culture that must be spread.
A lot of restaurants advertise their ethnic authenticity despite being owned and staffed by nothing or the sort. They talk about recipes from specific regions and all the ingredients they use and pretty much leave it at that. Who knows what really goes on.
These ladies did nothing wrong other than to spill the beans on how they conducted their research for the advancement of their business. If all they said was that they “conducted research on recipes from Mexico” and left it at that, nothing would have happened.
The article leaves the impression that they shamelessly cajoled little old ladies in their native land into spilling family cooking secrets without recompense. That’s just fodder for SJWs to feast upon.
