When Duane died he was just irreplaceable.

Yes. They went from being "The Best Band in America" to "just" a very good band.

Duane was the genius that set them apart.

Probably why the Beatles will may never be equaled. They had two very good musicians (George & Ringo) but had TWO geniuses in John and Paul. So rare it is doubtful it will ever be repeated.

PS. My copy of Giles Martin's remix of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band arrives tomorrow. I will play it loud and proud.
