I knew a guy who thinks he is supposed to be able to play contact sports in his 50s and still be pain free. He had good insurance with his company.
He complained that every specialist he went to ordered an MRI and he could not figure out why. I opined, not to gently, that it was because he had the money, the insurance, the time and was willing to let them.
I’m so beat up it takes me at least 10 paces to straighten up from sitting but still no medications and I’ve never had an MRI.
I guess they are good for somethings but I wonder how we ever did without them they are used so frequently. Guess you gotta pay for those expensive machines somehow.
When the patient is you or a loved one, sometimes you have to risk offending the doctor and tell them you would like a second opinion. This is your right as a patient and your obligation as an adult managing your own medical care as best you can.
Like any other professional, Doctors and Nurse Practitioners can get stuck in ruts too, generalizing symptoms and treating them as has always been done before. Your case, your innards may be the exception to the generalization. A confident medical provider of care should not be threatened by timely and prudent hesitation of a patient.

I shower in the mornings but sometimes I get the urge to take a bath, usually at night. It’s getting harder and harder to get in and out of that tub.
I’ll be 72 on the 29th. of this month - Lord willing.

Before MRIs it was almost impossible to accurately diagnose MS. One of the tests was to put a person in an extremely hot bath and see if any of their limbs quit working. Gadolinium highlights the MS lesions making them easy to identify. Between an MRI and Lumbar Puncture I was diagnosed after seeing a MS specialist for the first time. My uncle, back in the 70’s, went to Dr after Dr and they couldn’t give a definitive answer to what his problem was but finally decided it was MS. Unfortunately there really wasn’t any treatment other than steroids for it back then.
