There was an attempted assassination of President Truman by two Puerto Rican terrorists in 1950.
One terrorist was killed by a White House policeman, Leslie Coffelt, who was guarding the president while he resided at Blair House (this was while the White House was undergoing renovations). Officer Coffelt was himself shot, and he died of his wounds. The other Puerto Ricana terrorist was arrested and imprisoned, but Jimmy Carter commuted his sentence, and he was freed in 1979.
