Trump breaks campaign promise to deport Dreamers

The Homeland Security Department announced on Thursday that it would keep in place the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, allowing undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to remain in the country.

The decision breaks a key campaign promise by Trump to "immediately terminate" the DACA program and stands at odds with the president's vows to crackdown on illegal immigration.

In an announcement posted on the DHS website Thursday night, the department said that the memo that created DACA "will remain in effect." A fact sheet posted along with the announcement reaffirmed that the program's original provisions would remain in place.

"DACA recipients will continue to be eligible as outlined in the June 15, 2012, memorandum. DACA recipients who were issued three-year extensions before the district court’s injunction will not be affected, and will be eligible to seek a two-year extension upon their expiration," the fact sheet reads. "No work permits will be terminated prior to their current expiration dates."

The program impacts about 800,000 people in the U.S., and while Trump has suggested since taking office that he would not seek to deport DACA recipients, the DHS decision on Thursday quells concerns that the administration could do away with the policy.

Nice try. They can’t break his support with lies about Russia so now they’re going to start saying he broke all his campaign promises. Even if Trump does only sixty or seventy percent of what he says he’s going to do is still a thousand times better than the alternative. Just the fact he’ll probably get to appoint 2 or 3 people to SCOTUS makes his presidency well worth it. And all you chicken littles here better remember that. When is the last time a president got to appoint two or three people to the Supreme Court? Trumps election wss pretty good timing for us I’d say.

If we’ve paid for their education and they seem to be on the road to being decent citizens there’s not much to be gained by sending them back.

But my view of proper immigration policy is ALL about brain draining the rest of the world. Our competitive advantage is all the people who want to come (or, in this case, stay) here; set out standards high and take the ones that will be worth keeping, kick out or keep out the rest.

The US Constitution, Amendment 14, Section I:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. Also this! He’s getting no support from his own party who runs both houses so he has to do things slowly and incrementally. This is where the left has us beat because they get the concept of incrementalism in politics and in culture. They get the concept of the slow-burn versus conservatives who want it all or nothing and want it now. They understand that a little push here a little push there and eventually they take over everything, and we don’t get that concept sometimes. Maybe it’s because we’ve been lied to so much by our party? Either way we need to give him a break and see what happens down the road.

He doesnt need the help of bureaucrats or GOP to announce DACA is done. Failure to deport is going to possibly cost the House in 2018 because those people who put trump over the top who otherwise wouldnt have voted may stay home because promises were broken.

No, he didn’t lie. The rebellion of the bureaucrats and zero support from the GOP has made it impossible to do anything else right now. Grow up.

wrong. DACA was EO. it can be cancelled by another EO. no congress needed. just a pen (&phone). President Trump could have/should have done it on day one.

Whether I like the policy or not he never said that he was going to deport these people. I followed his campaign we watched just about every appearance he did not say that he said that they needed to be treated very humanely.

You mean, aside from the Rule of Law and Equal Under the same?? How many more ‘tiers’ will we need to split the populace for their ‘protected group’ entitlements?

There is NO way these people can exist/live/work in the U.S. WITHOUT continually violating the Law. Top validation, IMO, is their tax filings: EITC?? Jail, then Buh-bye. Multiple ‘returns’?? Jail, then buh-bye.

I say that I watched every Donald Trump campaign appearance including attending one live and this article and I’m sorry to say you are the liar. He never said that he would Deport the dreamers. Never said it.

Bull crap people are going to stay home in 2018 because the Congress is not supporting Trump. Everyone knows that Trump is stopping illegal immigration and is deporting lots and lots of illegal immigrants. They also know he’s focusing on the worst ones first.

That said, this is a special problem case, created by government, that Trump must resolve.
