Senate Republicans say we don't need any more investigations...

Senate Republicans were surprised Thursday Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said he was launching an investigation into James Comey's firing. Legislators from Grassley and President Donald Trump's party told The Hill they thought the new probe was unnecessary and allegations of 'improper interference' ought to be left to the Department of Justice's special counsel to rectify.

'It’s not that they don’t want to have an investigation, they don’t see a need for it,' Orrin Hatch, the longest-serving senator in the body, said.

Hatch speculated that Grassley was responding to pressure from Democrats to when he made the announcement in a letter to the top-ranking Democrat on the committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California.

But the probe won't be exclusively focused on Trump-land. Grassley also wants the investigation to look at Obama attorney general Loretta Lynch and whether she influenced the Clinton email scandal investigation.

Lynch's infamous Phoenix airport tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton in the final days of the email investigation will be part of the probe.

Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that it made him 'queasy' when at one point Lynch directed him to discuss the federal investigation into Clinton's private email server as a 'matter' rather than a full-blown 'investigation,' which it was.

'There should be no improper interference with FBI investigations to favor any elected official or candidate of either party,' Grassley wrote, The Hill reported. 'The Committee has an obligation to pursue all evidence of such misconduct.'

Could he be trying to counteract Mueller’s phony witch hunt?

This would explain why republicans don’t like this investigation:

“the probe won’t be exclusively focused on Trump-land. Grassley also wants the investigation to look at Obama attorney general Loretta Lynch and whether she influenced the Clinton email scandal investigation.”

At this point, Senator Grassley is the only US Senator I completely trust.

No, no Repubes. Let’s have 10 or 15 more investigations so that we can waste millions more of the taxpayer’s dollars in a futile effort to bring down a duly elected U.S. President.

That’s what most of you spineless worthless wimps want anyway.

Right?

I agree. It could keep Mueller gang from coming up with a lot of phony charges.

Also, the Comey, Lynch, Clinton corruption needs to be investigated.

Mueller needs to have a Very Special Prosecutor on his 6.

The spineless ones are the ones not wanting an investigation. This is to keep Mueller honest and to investigate Comey, Lynch, and Clinton.

I am good with it.

The Reciprocity bill is languishing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Could be. Also, to take Feinstein up on her offer to investigate Comey's admission of possible obstruction by Loretta Lynch. At least we can hope.

First thing they should do is bring Rosenstein in and make him look like an idiot for appointing Mueller who had obvious conflicts of interest.

I believe Mueller was hired by Rosenstein after Comey supposedly leaked his memo to his friend at Columbia.

My view was that Rosenstein appointed Mueller after Trump said in the Lester Holt interview that the Russia investigation had something to do with it, and Rosenstein was under more pressure than he could handle. Trump’s invite of the Russians into the oval office didn’t help, but Mueller was a horrible choice based on his close personal relationship with Comey.

This new committee should hammer Rosenstein on his poor judgement in selecting Mueller, which could possibly lead into asserting that similar bad judgement was used in even creating a special counsel to begin with.

Excellent idea. Make bringing in Comey’s pal Mueller look like a really poor choice.

Further analysis that I agree with:

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/06/15/asst-u-s-attorney-general-rosenstein-warns-america-about-media-sources-do-not-trust-anonymous-officals/#more-134401

Anyone who is buying into the story of James Comey leaking the memos to his friend, Daniel Richman, to get a special prosecutor appointed is falling for the shell game constructed entirely by James Comey. More than likely this is the explanation he has already given to Robert Mueller, hence his motive to state within his testimony.

It is important to remember that James Comey told congress he previously met with Robert Mueller to discuss his testimony prior to appearing before congress.

James Comey admitted to this specific “leaking”, because the justification to ‘get a special counsel appointed‘ is the explanatory storyline James Comey wants to present in public.

The alternate reason for leaking, the political motives, are much more damaging to him.

James Comey benefits two ways from his explanation. First, he justifies terrible behavior through a prism of his honor could find no other way (his status remains). Secondly, he sets up special counsel Mueller as fruit of a poisoned tree leading to voices calling for Mueller’s removal. Win/Win.

Comey Inc. also benefits from calls by Comey’s political opposition to eliminate Robert Mueller who is investigating the leaking.

Don’t fall for it.
