TV Ratings: Megyn Kelly Sees No Lift From Alex Jones Sitdown
Hollywood Reporter ^ | 06/19/17 | Michael O'Connell

Three episodes in, Megyn Kelly's Sunday Night is suffering from no shortage of attention. The former Fox News personality's transition to NBC host got especially bumpy this past week with the show's heavily-dissected decision to interview controversial radio host and Infowars entrepreneur Alex Jones.

The episode finally aired Sunday, averaging 3.5 million viewers, a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and a 0.7 rating among adults 25-54. By all measures, that's virtually the same showing Kelly got with final adjustments during week two — again trailing a 60 Minutes repeat.

Audio of the interview leaked prior to the telecast when Jones posted it online in an effort to discredit Kelly's line of questioning. Kelly most notably asked Jones, a man who peddles both conspiracies and questionable dietary supplements, about his motivations for calling the devastating 2012 mass murder at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary a "hoax."

Merely sitting down with Jones did not go over well with Sandy Hook families and a few advertisers. NBC News went aggressively on the defense, trotting out elder statesman Tom Brokaw to read an essay about the need to interview characters like Jones, due to the reach of their "poisonous claims."

Kelly's first episode came out of the gate rather strong, averaging 6.2 million viewers. Her second episode, however, dipped down to 3.6 million viewers and was dwarfed by competitor 60 Minutes — despite the fact that NBC paired the show with a winning Stanley Cup final.

Sunday Night, and all Sunday originals, was again overwhelmed by sports this week. Time zone adjustments will likely alter Fox's wrap-up of the 2017 U.S. Open Golf Championship, but preliminary numbers make it a solid winner for the night. It currently has 6.1 million viewers and a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49.

These egotistical elitists in the media, as usual, do not factor in the opinion and will of the viewers. Let them learn.

Much ado about nothing.

They are allies in cahoots but failed.

The right hates Kelly and will stay away.

The left ignores Kelly because she is not radical enough.

Independents don’t care about political shows in non election years.

So, what did they (NBC) expect?

Maybe when Kelly Rippa finally gets the axe, Megyn can have her spot?

Megyn Kelly tried to pu$$y whip candidate Donald Trump and failed.

She tried the same with Alex Jones and failed.

Megyn is all washed up. No one wants to listen to her prattle.

She is desperate for ratings she can no longer generate unless she ceases her pu$$y whipping approach and becomes a real journalist, which is unlikely.

Megyn Kelly is all washed up IMHO.

I wish everyone would just lay off MeGYN! Quit picking on her! She has been hamstrung by the wrong people to interview

Please MeGYN, just be yourself! Get back in the swing with folks you can truly relate to: The Kardashians, Kanye, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Katy Pery, and so many more. You will be great by just being yourself, just being you!

They don’t get it. Me-Again Kelly is despised by both right and left.

To paraphrase an Alex Jones infomercial, it’s a lose lose deal.

Duh! Almost no one knows who Alex Jones is and fewer care about what Megyn Kelley has to say.

“The episode finally aired Sunday, averaging 3.5 million viewers, a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and a 0.7 rating among adults 25-54.”

The same exact same rating she would have had if she and Jones were naked’ mud wrestling.

I used to watch Megyn on Fox.

She was okay, on average, but she tended to have flighty and unprofessional moments, and was over-her-head at times.

Martha is far superior in every respect.

I forgot all about her, but see Paula Zahn. LOL. Similar trajectory. NBC bought a pig in a poke.

The first sentence in the first paragraph seems unnecessarily ambiguous;
“Megyn Kelly’s Sunday Night is suffering from no shortage of attention.”

Maybe the author is saying with all the free publicity she’s gotten, one would expect higher ratings.

A moment to appreciate the validity of the old adage that “revenge is a dish best served cold”.

It’s summer time and people are not in doors watching Megyn try to jump start her flat career with her NBC debut. Her six months hiatus was vinegar in her eye, as well. The world continued to turn without her daily pungent presence on TV, and she took notice.

I don’t see how she ever recovers her career to the level of her former FOX notoriety. NBC is a nasty place, wanting to make her the face of the network.
