“The paper found that since 1994, the manufacture of .38-caliber guns rose 12-fold, with nearly 820,000 of the pistols produced in 2015. The manufacture of 9 mm guns also increased seven-fold in this 15-year stretch, while those larger than 9 mm jumped 150 percent
“Easily explained by two factors:”
You fell for it. They changed the measurement system to make it look like ‘larger than 9mm’ had a HUGE jump....
Translating what they said shows this:
.38 guns went up 12 times
9 mm went up 7 times
bigger than 9mm went up 1.5 times.
So the larger calibers are getting more uncommon (by proportion).

That will probably get you checked-off as a "yes".
A casual "no" would be much more effective.

Well, that may have been the most embarrassing article I've ever read in Newsweak, and that's a pretty tough standard. The numbers quoted in the article show a conclusion completely opposite to the one in the text. If sales of .38 are up, it does not mean that people are going for "deadlier" calibers, whatever that means in the author's vivid imagination. For one thing I don't believe that number unless the author has lumped .38 special in with .380, the latter of which has gone up as a result of the popularity of small-caliber subcompacts. Neither one, however, represents up-gunning from anything, unless it's nothing.
There are ways that caliber might be correlated to deadliness, however. This is my new carry piece:
Mine's a deadly semi-automatic version with a high-capacity ammo clip magazine thingy and a badass bayonet lug. I'm looking for an ankle holster.

They also think that the 5.56 NATO is too powerful for civilians to have.

I am having a debate with myself as to eliminating some guns of different calibers and going to exclusively one caliber (#1, .357, #2 9mm).
Shotguns a different subject and time.
