Most of these settlements for blacks justifiably killed by police are pure bullcrap (e.g., the gentle giant in Ferguson, Missouri) and should not have been made. The settlement in this article, however, is one that made sense to me. The dead passenger did nothing wrong but, on the contrary, did everything right. The involved jittery cop clearly lacked the necessary attributes to bea cop.
These settlements are intended to save money on lawyers. I ran a grocery store and a black women was trying to steal a ham. My clerk grabbed a broom and stood in front the door with it and would not let her out. Well she wrestled with my clerk then threw the ham down. She got a lawyer sued us and won because the insurance company did not want to pay the legal fees.
