uh, huh? we still have a huge military presence in japan; a carrier task force, several air wings, and god only knows how many actual troops. in a very real sense, we’re still occupying japan.
so, we are treating it the same way. that’s actually one of the problems.

The night and day difference is that the Japanese, Germans, and Italians unconditionally SURRENDERED. Who did we get to surrender over there? I must have missed it.

you're sort of moving the goalpost. your point was that you couldn't believe we were still in afgh, and we should have treated it like japan.
we are treating afgh like japan. we occupied japan. in many ways, we're still occupying japan, and that war has been over for 70 years. by comparison, our troops have been in afgh for no time at all.

No it isn’t the same at all. Any Japanese or Germans resisted after the surrender where hung, if not shot on the spot.
