Very few sentences completely convey meaning that well. I understand it was originally said by a Japanese General about their attack at Pearl Harbor. But I would HOPE to achieve that level some day.
The quote about waking the sleeping giant and filling him with a terrible resolve was attributed to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Most historians accept that the quote is apocryphal; it was never uttered by Yamamoto, along with a few other quotes he is alleged to have uttered but either never were or were taken greatly out of context.
It does, however, sum up his fears of taking on the United States, a vastly superior industrial power.
