In his assessment of what Paris Climate Accord was all about, at least Erdogan is brutally honest about the real objectives.

By example, the US has done far more than just about all the rest of the world altogether in mitigating air and water pollutants. Were Third World countries to emulate the measures the US has ALREADY taken, they, too, could enjoy the virtues of cleaner air and water, and without waiting for their neighbors to clean up things first.

But to pay for these luxuries of clean air and water, there has to be an economic system that REWARDS people for making the effort. So far, free market capitalism seems to be the quickest and most effective way to provide the funding necessary to carry out these programs. So far, the competing economic systems do not appear to have made much progress, as they invariably rely of a combination of taxation and regulation, and the resulting non-compliance, of the people most affected by the effects of this pollution.
