Harvard had fraternities and final clubs during the 19th century. Although they weren’t really recognized as part of the school they did exist. When Harvard began to try to eliminate the fraternities, some disbanded and some turned themselves into final clubs. It wasn’t until the early 1990’s that fraternities began to re-open chapters at Harvard. The fraternities (and now multiple sororities) are still not part of the school. So how can Harvard ban them?
