I have a co-worker who thinks blue states finance benefits for red states, health care and otherwise. She also thinks it’s selfish if people don’t buy health insurance to pay for subsidies.
“I have a co-worker who thinks blue states finance benefits for red states, health care and otherwise.”
To a certain degree, that’s true. Because the economies of states like California and New York are so large, they produce tax revenues which are redistributed to smaller states, many of which vote Republican.
I bet she says selfish like it is a bad thing.
Everyone is selfish. They have to be or they will not survive.
Does she not think that people who apply for welfare or healthcare benefits are not selfish for doing so? By taking benefits are they not taking something from someone else?
It is no sin to strive for your own good. It is not a sin to want to keep what you have earned. It is not a sin to desire to get the full value of what you pay for.
It is foolish to think otherwise.
Charity must be voluntary. Anything else is theft.
