Mountlake Terrace Washington mid 60’s, bicycle license stickers were mandatory. They cost money, if memory serves they were a buck. Which is essentially a tax. We were told it helped to identify stolen property. But you could scrape them off...

Grand Rapids, MI had those bicycle license stickers in the 50’s. They cost 50 cents and were an annual “tax.” I rode to the nearest fire station to get mine.

We had a metal plate given out by the fire department. You had to fill out a card identifying bike and owner. Didn’t cost anything

But that was a long time ago
