Trump Throws Out Bombshell Accusation That Comey Tried to Hold Dirt Over His Head
Law Newz ^ | July 19, 2017 | Rachel Stockman

In a wide ranging interview with The New York Times, Trump threw his Attorney General Jeffrey Sessions under the bus for deciding to recuse himself from the Russia probe. A decision Trump called “very unfair” to the president.

But, maybe even more shocking, he claims that FBI Director James Comey tried to hold the salacious dossier over his head, in order to gain “leverage” over him. It had previously been reported that when administration officials briefed the president at Trump Tower in January, Comey pulled him aside and told him about the details of the now infamous dossier which included unverified reports of Trump’s sexual encounters while in Russia.

Why did Comey bring this up? Trump has a new theory.

From The New York Times report:

In the interview, Mr. Trump said he believes Mr. Comey told him about the dossier to implicitly make clear he had something to hold over the president. “In my opinion, he shared it so that I would think he had it out there,” Mr. Trump said. As leverage? “Yeah, I think so,’’ Mr. Trump said. “In retrospect.”

The president dismissed the assertions in the dossier: “When he brought it to me, I said this is really, made-up junk. I didn’t think about any of it. I just thought about man, this is such a phony deal.”

The 35 page document, first published by Buzzfeed, was full of uncorroborated allegations that were comprising for the president was reportedly written by former British spy Christopher Steele .

During congressional testimony in June, Comey said he alerted President Trump to the dossier for the following reasons (very different from what Trump contends):

The IC leadership thought it important, for a variety of reasons, to alert the incoming President to the existence of this material, even though it was salacious and unverified. Among those reasons were: (1) we knew the media was about to publicly report the material and we believed the IC should not keep knowledge of the material and its imminent release from the President-Elect; and (2) to the extent there was some effort to compromise an incoming President, we could blunt any such effort with a defensive briefing

Comey was asked by a Senator Richard Burr whether the FBI was able to confirm any criminal allegations contained in the document. Comey told the senators that he couldn’t answer the question in the public forum because it might go into some details of the ongoing public investigation.

comprising

Should be compromising and it may not be a typo. The reporter knew the word was something like that and maybe doesn't know the difference between the two of them.+

Sessions has apparently retired to a comfortable place in the swamp.

>>SOP for the swamp.

On a guided trip down South a few years (well decades) ago - I once heard Ed Gillet tell the owner of the "camping" spot at La Bufadore that somebody should write a song about her "toilet" facilites.

Still working on that.

This song, on a similar theme...

[JamesB - (Deplorable Records)]

...was a lot easier to write.

Trump is never satisfied with “just any”. He always goes for the whole enchilada. Getting there is the challenge and one that he is very much up to.

Yep...anyone who thinks the President is just sitting back and taking all of this and passively hoping it will all go away is seriously deluded. He's not going to make a move until he's ready and when does it's gonna be something!

I agree completely. Trump is leading them down rabbit trails that suddenly end. There will be several rabbit trails that continue but lead to indictments of key players from the last administration.

They are playing the game which Trump has invented. He will win but it will take some time. Sometimes leadership is leading the opposition to defeat and he appears to be doing a great job of that aspect of his game.

On timing of indictments of the guilty players, doing this so quickly after a bitterly contested election would expose the electorate to the violence and arson of the left which we do not want. They have nothing left in their toolkit but violence and arson.

I have found it very curious and quite rewarding to note that the violent crowds have been very small and have not grown much at all. The Berkeley incident, I suspect, has cooled down the potential for future violence as antifa did not expect to be chased down the street by impossibly large Conservatives.

They are still insisting on Alinsky’s tactics and will do so in the future without regard to whether they work or not, possibly directed by a woman whom Alinsky referred to as “my little daughter”, Hillary.

So, I do agree that with you.

I’m starting to get the feeling that before it’s all over with, Sessions might be lucky enough to stay out of jail.

Trump is certainly telling the “truth” that “he believes, in retrospect” that Comey had other reasons for divulging that information.

In retrospect, I think we can all see that Comey does things to protect himself, like taking notes of meetings after the fact, leaking information to friends, and publicly claiming things while hiding other things to keep leverage.

Totally agree, if the past is any indication. Trump is crazy like a fox.

I agree with this too. Ye who laughs last laughs hardest.

I have a theory. And I hope I'm right. It goes along with Trump sort of dissing Sessions for recusing himself.

What if Trump is setting up the table so that Sessions can go after the Obama/Clinton syndicate? And/or AGs Lynch and Holder? Think about it. Sessions is now seen as a stand-up guy by libtards and willing to rankle Trump. And now that Trump has expressed displeasure, he has put himself at arms length from Sessions. In other words, if Sessions went after the disposable leftists Trump can say, “Well, we know he's his own guy...doing it without my prompting.”

Trap. Sprung.

Precisely correct

Now is not the time to make the assault

There are only 1,367 charges and hundreds perhaps thousands left to be worked up....... and that’s just on Hillary.

We don’t know how many others are being investigated.

The assault will be so swift and overwhelming that the defenses will be crushed

You do not wound the queen. You must kill the Queen.

Trump doesn’t go to bed - he waits for everybody else to get up.

I don’t form opinions about stuff like what’s going on today. I just sit back and enjoy the show.

Brennan has testified repeatedly that the dossier shouldn’t be considered because it was unverifiable and was not a US intelligence product. He also testified that Comey was attached to the hip to the dossier and refused to drop it. It is remarkable that Comey, who ‘tried to melt into the curtains’ days later, took it upon himself to meet alone with Pres Trump, and didn’t think that was unethical in the least, and didn’t set a tone, yet any subsequent meeting was somehow unethical.

The communists liberals just keeping heaving shi! at President Trump and still nothing in the form of investigations of the other side. Is it Sessions or the President not wanting to investigate and prosecute. This is getting real questionable.

This is Comey. There are whisperings that Comey was using FBI power and investigation results to intimidate and blackmail a lot of official Washington and that many oil Congress were cowed and terrified by themas.

He no doubt tried to do this Trump in a private aside to start the process of Trump.

Shortly afterward, in the famous private White House meeting, Trump asked others to step outside sh he could do a private side bar discussion with Comey. Trump probably had a nice chat with Comey laying out all the dirt Trump had on Comey, including the abuses of FISA and NSA unmasking.

This shook Comey up enough so he immediately when into cover your ass mode and starting writing self serving memos to himself to try to get leverage on Trump

I love keeping personal records. Early in my career I found it tedious and boring to keep track of my time and what I had been doing. Later in my career though, I realized that my own records could be just as self-serving and loose with the truth as I wanted. Because no one else was watching me. Thus if ever questioned about what I did, or what I had been doing, I could easily say oh, on that date I was busily engaged with the Penske File or the TPS reports or whatever. Nobody could prove otherwise.
