America Is Changing — One Carry Permit at a Time
National Review ^ | July 22, 2017 | David French

A recent increase in law-abiding gun ownership bodes well for the country’s future.

The great arming is underway, and that’s a very good thing for our nation, for our culture, and for the relationship between citizen and state.

On Thursday, John Lott and the Crime Prevention Research Center published a comprehensive survey of the growth in concealed-carry permits in the United States. The numbers are stunning — not just in their growth, but in their depth and consequence. Here’s a sampling.

During Barack Obama’s presidency, the number of concealed-carry permit holders increased by a whopping 256 percent. The numbers have increased across multiple demographics, with a higher percentage growth for women than men and for black citizens than white. In eleven states at least 10 percent of the adults possess carry permits. All told, 16.36 million Americans have carry permits, a number that understates the amount of people who carry weapons, since 14 states “have adopted constitutional carry in all or part of the state” — which means that no permit is required for citizens to carry a gun. At the same time that carry permits have increased at an astonishing rate, violent crime has decreased, and concealed-carry permit holders remain remarkably law-abiding. From 2007 to 2015, murder rates decreased by 12.5 percent and “overall violent crime fell by 18 percent.”

At the same time, “the percentage of adults with permits soared by 190 percent.” And yet despite that growth, available data still indicate that permit holders are substantially more law-abiding than the police. For example, using data from Florida and Texas, Lott found that “permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at less than a sixth of the rate for police officers.” . . .

“Lott found that “permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at less than a sixth of the rate for police officers.” . . .”

I knew a small business owner who would only hire permit holders, He let the permit process be his background checker.

I have to admit that three years into his “fundamental transformation of America”, Barak convinced me to get my CHP.

It’s still virtually impossible to get a carry permit in California except for the Dianne Feinsteins. Luckily for me I have lived in crime-free areas and haven’t felt the need to carry. If a situation required it, I wouldn’t hesitate to carry my Ruger .357 despite the law.

I worked in Detroit during the 1967 riots, recently in the news because it’s the 50th anniversary. I didn’t carry back then but I had a revolver in my car. During the riots it was a season of open carry and I didn’t feel threatened by seeing everybody in the streets carrying a gun, I was comforted because it ensured that nobody was going to start anything.

I agree. Carrying requires exercise of patience
and tolerance to avoid provoking bad behavior
of others that could lead to confrontation.

I was looking for the “Repubicans” to pass permit reciprocity so that people who live in states where CCW is hard or impossible to get, would have a chance to protect themselves like the states that allow CCW, but it looks as though Ryan is going to put the kibosh on the legislation that has something more than 200 House sponsor. And I have no idea what the GOPe Brahmans in the Senate would do if the legislation got to them.

One has to be armed now-a-days with rogue Somalis hired as police officers in this country.

Or pay a bribe to a governmental official to obtain permission to exercise a God-given, Constitutionally-protected right.

That’s pretty smart. Saves him the cost of a background check.

**They become a protector — of themselves and others family — and that transition has a powerful psychological effect. It grants them greater security in their home, and it grants them greater freedom in their community. For many people, it gives them freedom from fear.**

I generally agree with the author. What I don't agree with is *others* ....I have so many neighbors, townpeople who are @ssholes ...I would do nothing to save their sorry butts.

It's stunning really. Republican congressmen can actually (barely) live through an attempted assassination, and they still don't realize they have to carry. The rest of us reached that conclusion long ago.

I can't begin to fathom the depth of their stupidity. It boggles the mind.

A Republican in congress really has to be the dumbest creature that ever existed.

PDF file: 7 Proven Strategies to Survive the Legal Aftermath of Armed Lethal Defense

- produced by Second Call Defense [they're selling *Trigger to Trial Protection*]

Only reason why I mention them is I picked up their brochure displayed at my gun club. Have no first-hand knowledge of their service. Shortly after I saw their brochure, the NRA began advertising their program.

I’ve been with Sean Maloney and Second Call Defense for about three years. I highly recommend them as the best to anyone else carrying a firearm for self defense.

An interesting link, but the truth is you, the victim, is at the mercy of a corrupt legal system, crooked judges, and dishonest jurors. OJ slit the throats of 2 white people and walked free because the black jurors were never going to convict an African celebrity, period. The overwhelming evidence of his guilt was simply disregarded, the collection of the evidence by white investigators was racist and that was the end of it.
