They should build a mosque in their town and then demand access. Road funds would be appropriated in a hurry.

How many billions in foreign aid is spent by the US government, and they can't build/fund a road in Alaska?

I know many up there want to be disconnected from civilization. But if the town’s people want it, the state of Alaska should built it.

They need to find an “endangered species” near their town, then Tsongas will want the road so that the government can inspect it’s “habitat” and levy fines on anyone encroaching on it. Better still, call the City of Toronto and have them quote on building the road. I understand that they needed $65,000-$150,000 to build seven or eight steps and a handrail to serve a public garden that a local resident did for $500.

I have to ask the obvious question, why did this road for a small town require federal dollars? Shouldn’t the state or county pay for it?

Actually, nevermind, I should have read the whole thing. It’s seriously messed up that western states are under so much federal control.

There is a lot more to building and maintaining a road in Alaska than most other places...

This article seems short on facts and long on emotion.

Why doesn’t Alaska build its own 11 mile road if the feds are dragging their feet?

Here’s some background - town is King Cove, AK:

Feds to Alaskans: No road for humans, lots of land for animals
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/02/26/fed-government-to-alaskans-road-animals.html

Here’s Sally Jewel’s comment (I heard about it when it happened - totally disgusting):

“She stood up in the gymnasium and told those kids, ‘I’ve listened to your stories, now I have to listen to the animals,” Democratic state Rep. Bob Herron told a local television station. “You could have heard a pin drop in that gymnasium.”

... the state of Alaska should built it.

If they are asking Congress, then it is almost certain that the State of Alaska can do nothing without US Government approval. Most likely this is Federal-controlled land and as such requires 'zoning approval' for a road.

They are using "environment" as a way to hurt citizens who are not in their party.

Never do anything for America; do only that which helps "our party" and hurts the other party.

Call that partisanship, and THAT is where Ameica has gone off track. Where every solution has become a political partisan decision, not what is in America's best interests.

Maybe they could get a refund on “The Bridge To Nowhere” and use that money to build their road.

You are correct - the land is in a Federal Refuge & the Feds thus far value wildlife over human life.
