I can’t keep up with the technology. I thought I read in the last few months that the newer versions haven’t been broken and the market for jail breaks was drying up anyway.

You're right, but there are millions of older iPhones in China and they can be re-imaged to an older iOS that can be jailbroken so can use one of these third-party stores. Those that were jailbroken don't get updated. .. so there are all of those repeat customers.

Nope, I had it turned off because I was editing an technical article which had too many tech terms not in the dictionary that the spell checker kept wanting to change when I answered your post. Then the glitches due to the DOS attack on FR caused the reply to post before I was able to edit it, errors and all. You aren't worth a second thought post with corrections.

“if you have a company operating in the United States and the FBI or IRS sends you a CEASE and DESIST letter, informing you are in violation of XYZ law and regulation, you just ignore the letter, and keep on doing it anyway?”

Cook did.

He stood up to the FBzi and would not help in the jihadi massacre.

No, he didn't. The courts backed Apple's position and quashed the illegal All Writs Order. The law was and is entirely on Apple's side. Apple had complied with every legal search warrant they'd received and even volunteered their assistance in unlocking the iPhone which the FBI originally declined until their efforts resulted in irretrievably LOCKING it by changing the Apple ID associated with that iPhone against apple's advice! Apple provided the FBI with the last complete back-up of the iPhone in question from the iCloud account.

However, THAT was NOT what the FBI and the government was after. The All Writs Court Order instructed Apple, against FEDERAL LAW, and Judicial precedent, to provide an ALTERNATIVE OPERATING SYSTEM and/or a TOOL THAT WOULD UNLOCK APPLE ALL iOS DEVICES of that model, not just that single iPhone, and then turn that product over to the FBI. I have quoted the exact court order on FR numerous times, word-for-word, showing exactly those requirements.

A Federal law, passed in 1994, SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED the courts or any law enforcement agency from ordering any telecommunications manufacturer or telecom carrier to compromise the encryption or security of any such device or software it manufactures or publishes. I've posted the exact wording and legal citation of this law, which the US Supreme Court has upheld. The Magistrate Judge overstepped his authority in issuing the All-Writs Court order to Apple and it was QUASHED as a violation of the law! In fact, it was found to be unconstitutional.

“The courts backed Apple’s position”

Do they not have courts in China?

What would you have Cook do? Go into a Chinese court a cry "this order is illegal under the US Constitution"?

Are you so dense you think Chinese government courts would enforce the Constitution of the United States and a US Federal Law, or would they instead follow the laws passed by the Chinese government, which ignore the laws of the US? Those US documents and laws have ZERO power in China. . . it's China's jurisdiction and China's laws, regulations, and penalties that MUST br obeyed and not flouted.

The law was clearly on Apple's side in the case where you ignorantly attempt to smear Apple and Cook in the San Bernardino terrorism attack aftermath. . . when Apple went beyond and above the letter of the law in the requirements of search warrant law.. . But Apple was protecting all of our civil rights and privacy in refusing a court's arrogant over reach with the illegal All-writs order demanding from Apple, an uninvolved third-party, actions that were, on their face, UNCONSTITUTIONAL to demand!

The law in China is NOT ON APPLE'S SIDE IF THEY WERE TO REFUSE TO REMOVE THE UNLICENSED VPNs. . . but the people of China do not have basic rights or much recourse to challenge the edicts of even low level government agents. Yes, they have courts, but you must prove your innocence, as your guilt is assumed by your being accused. You must prove a negative, that you did not do something, a much harder burden of proof than a reasonable doubt, or in civil case a preponderance of the evidence.

“Are you so dense you think...”

Interesting you need to resort to insults.

You know there is no defense for Cook’s hypocrisy, double standards and cowardice.

And so was Trump “Special Economic Advisor” Carl Ichan who owned $2 billion in Apple shares until he sold it all last year because he was worried about China’s economy.
Millions of people own Apple stock. That’s why its the richest publicly traded company ever. Current market capitalization: $818.47 billion. If Apple was a nation, it would rank just behind Mexico and ahead of Turkey and The Netherlands at number 16 in Gross Domestic Product.
