The Magyars came out of the Tibetan steppes way back when who are the base for Hungarians. The language is Ugo-Finnish (go figger that one out).

The Magyars settled in what is now Hungary in 895. Before that they lived in western Siberia--the closest relatives of the Hungarian language are in Siberia, spoken by small numbers of people. Finnish and Estonian are more distantly related to Hungarian.

Hungarian has adopted some words from the Slavs who were in Hungary before they arrived. Genetically they are pretty similar to the surrounding Slavic peoples, suggesting that a small elite from Siberia imposed their rule over a more numerous Slavic-speaking population.
