I wish I could remember the author’s name but this one interview sticks in my head. The author was a lefty and at first seemed combative with Hugh. Hugh completely reads every single book before he does an interview and writes notes along the way.
As the interview and back and forth go on where Hugh says “on page xxx you wrote ....” The author really started warming up to him. By the end of the interview Hugh had completely won over the author and planted kernels of conservative thought into his head.
Sadly, Hugh suffers from Californication where his blue blood Orange County Republican ways of thinking cloud the reality of the situation with national blue collar working class folks. He simply can’t acknowledge the impact that illegal immigration has on blue collar middle class Americans.
It's not just blue collar middle class Americans - it's Americans up and down the ladder. When an illegal becomes legal he get a first rung job on the ladder BECAUSE he's willing to work cheaper ... and that job allows him to keep moving up the ladder. It's not like any of these poeple keep 'picking crops' after they're made citizens. They don't. Which requires an unending stream of illegals to keep the system going... But aside from that, everyone has their blind spots... not just Orange Country Elites who think they 'see the larger picture'.
The fact Hewitt's a reader becomes obvious after hearing him talk for 10 minutes. He's not pushing facts to show off - facts are the solid background to his every thought. Interesting guy. Again he's sorta sorta sorta with us... Thanks for your comments.
